2.8 to 3.8 Buick Turbo swap
2.8 to 3.8 Buick Turbo swap
Hi!
I have 87 Camaro with 2.8 engine. I just bought complete 3.8 SFI Buick turbo engine with ecu, but without wiring harness.
Now i need know what parts i must buy for complete swap to my camaro. I heard i need Trans AM TTA engine mountings and i found those http://www.gbodyparts.com/product_in...roducts_id=630 or anyone knows where i can find cheaper? Where i can find TTA wiring harness or only hope is making 2.8 wiring harenss work with 3.8 SFI?
I use 200r4 trans.
I live in Europe i must buy all swaping stuff online shops from USA.
I want collect all stuff what i need and then do swap.
Sorry for my bad english.

I'm not 100% sure on the 3.8, but the 2.8, 3.1 and V8 cars all used the same K member on thirdgens, pretty certain the TTA's were no exception.

The K member is the same, no worries there. The harness can be bought from Caspers Electronics (casperselectronics.com) or Cottonsperformance.com. You will have to order the GN harness and swap over the 2.8l bulk head connector. Get every wiring diagram you can find and take your time. The GN motor mounts will work just fine. You will need the Lower portion that mounts to the k member. You can use ones from any 3.8l equiped RWD car. you will have to drill new mounting holes anyway. You will need to either remove the AC housing from the car, or use the buick 3.8l FWD heads and custom headers to clear. You'll need a tranny crossmember that has a mount for the torque arm, or else use a 700r4 trans with an adaptor plate. A custom down pipe will have to be made, and a variety of other brackets and such. Good luck!

But, if i use TTA mountings i must still drill holes or with tta mounting is it clear swap without drilling holes?

The Fiero probably used a FWD 3800 and you're getting advice in this thread for the RWD 3.8 used in the TTA.
The 200-4R had the RWD Buick/Olds/Pontiac bolt pattern. The FWD 3800 has a bolt pattern used on FWD and 60degree V6 applications. The RWD 700-R4 and 4L60-E were made with the correct bolt pattern.

What he's saying is its highly unlikely you've actually got a GN/TTA version, there are other 3.8's out there. Please post up some pictures of your engine so we can determine what you've actually got so you get the correct info.
