engine hits the steering shaft

i am trying to help a friend. he is putting a 350 into a 92 that had a v6. it seems the k bar or the steering control arm might be different. the steering column has two u jointed shaft. slide engine back too far and the mounts hit. too far forward and the headers hit the steering shaft.

so my question. is there a conversion for the steering shaft? is he trying the wrong mounts. is the k member different for for a 350?

ps i did read other forums where it says there are two sets of mounting bolt holes for the different positions( v6 or 350).

has anyone else had this problem.

additional info. i was able to look at the car for a min but had to leave town. he has the mounts from the car he pulled it out of.

Re: engine hits the steering shaft

Probably trying to use mounts and exhaust manifolds that aren't from another V8 third-gen. That won't work.

If you haven't already, take a look at the V6 to V8 swap sticky in the top section of this forum. There's a pic of the location of the motor mounts in the V8 position.
