Re: motor mount help
If the engine is already out of the vehicle, it is a lot easier but you will still need 2 people as 1 person is on top and the guy under the car will need some wobble sockets and extensions. Good luck.

Re: motor mount help
Bottom mounting bolt/nut can be removed with a ratchet, short socket and swivel. The 2 upper nuts can be removed by holding them in place with a 15mm wrench and turning the ratchet from the other side.
Getting them off isn't easy - but mounting them is even worse.
I had to replace the motor mounts in my 85Z when I found out I had a bad one after pulling the motor last week. Even with the engine already out,...... I STILL decided to drop the control arms JUST to make installing the new motor mounts easier.

If you don't drop the control arms be sure that you use flared nuts - like the factory used - inside the X mebmber. They will be easier to hold in place on the 15mm wrench than non-flared nuts when working inside the X member !
P.S. Also a good idea to have a magnetic pick-up tool handy to recover the nuts that you drop inside the X-member !

Re: motor mount help
I can't drop the a arms or suspension because of time, I'm trying to do this swap while my car is getting a nose replacement from an accident and ill have my new nose Saturday and I'm hoping to put my new motor in Saturday or Sunday depending on how these bolts fight me. I'm going from a v6 to a v8 so this is worse for me.

Re: motor mount help
i changed the engine mounts by myself with the engine on... Get a cherry picker to make life easier. Its 3 bolts on each engine mount. one bolt u need an extension that gives u angle on the socket; the other two bolts, u need a wrench going thru a whole on the k-member.
No needs to drop the control arms just to change the engine mounts

Re: motor mount help
go under the car and take a look at ur k-member. I used the following tools: 2 ratchets, long and short 15mm sockets, extension, swivel and 15mm wrench. For top use the ratchet with the long socket. On bottom: one nut, u can remove with the short socket swivel and ratchet. the other two nuts, you can use the 15mm wrench. u have to insert the wrench in a hole that it is located in between the lower control arm bushings.
