2.8l to 3.8l supercharged

I want to swap out my stock 2.8 for a 3.8 supercharged. dont know much about it and need some suggestions. what would be the best motor, will it bolt direct or do i need modified mounts, what can i expect as far as power difference? etc.

Re: 2.8l to 3.8l supercharged

besides that link is for a 5.0ltr 305 v8 supercharged. im trying to keep it as simple as possible by swaping for a v-6 with more displacement. and hes building his motor not swaping for one already built. im looking for a stock supercharged v-6 that way i dont have to expand the fuel lines, larger fuel pump, beefed up suspension, new ecu, bigger brakes, so on and so forth. i want to keep a v-6 but with more power.

Re: 2.8l to 3.8l supercharged

see i toyed around with the idea of twin turbo like we just did on my buddys 2.2l probe gt, but his was a manual. ive always thought turbos were better suited for a standard. if im wrong please correct me. cuz im trying to do a poor boy mod, meaning i dont have alot of money to throw at it. but im willing to spend to increase my acceleration and top end as well, and the turbo increases accel but doesnt do much to top end. besides the motor just feels too small for the car but i dont want to up to a v-8

try this http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthre...rcharger-Build

but you'd have to convert to carb or stand alone 2bb tbi

Re: 2.8l to 3.8l supercharged

the grand prix gtp is fuel injected and supercharged v-6. but if i have to switch to carburated then thats fine save. i was looking at the l32(?) out of the gtp but dont know how well it would work as it is a fwd motor. the 2.8l is as well, but it is a fwd rear mount motor so it works for front mount rwd.

Re: 2.8l to 3.8l supercharged

The L32 3800 and the 2.8L V6 you have should share the same bellhousing bolt-pattern. Also, if I remember what I've found in the past, even the FWD 3800 blocks should have the bosses for the RWD mounts that were on the 3800 V6's in the 4th-Gen F-body. You'll probably have to cut the inlet off the supercharger and weld on a new inlet that's more U-shaped to clear the firewall and re-route it towards the front of the car. Something like the first picture in this guy's thread:

Re: 2.8l to 3.8l supercharged

thats an awesome moded supercharger. that is helpful. so in order to swap, will i have to modify the engine mounts? pretty sure i will, this is my daily driver as well so its making it harder to work on cause it has to be done in a weekend

Re: 2.8l to 3.8l supercharged

Mounts and brackets from a '96-'02 V6 Camaro or Firebird would be a great place to start. They should bolt to the 3800 block without issue. Their placement on the K-member's mounting pads is the only thing I'm not sure of. In the worst case scenario, you could probably rig up some kind of adapter plates between the mounts and the K-member. But, honestly, I don't know.

Re: 2.8l to 3.8l supercharged

i fabbeb up brackets and had welder make them for $80. I have a thread in fabrication forum showing diff between 2.8 & 3800 brackets. The new brackets went from the 2.8 mounts to the block

In my opinion, so take it like a grain of salt, stick with your 2.8, massage your stock heads, get a decent cam with lots of overlap (turbo's benefit from that), stick with your stock ECM but swap in a different chip. There is a prom out there that will install right into your MAF ECM and essentially convert it over to SD, you just need to repin a few wires and your done. Get yourself some headers, turbo, wastegate, downpipe, and from there you can focus on your injectors, stall and gears, and you will have a pretty damn fast car when your done. If you need help with that idea, bring this thread on over to the V6 section...

Re: 2.8l to 3.8l supercharged

thanks but i dont want a turbo. i want it supercharged there are only a few that have converted to a s/c 3800 and im trying to be one of them. too many people opt out for a turbo or the v-8. i want a little uniqueness in mine.

Re: 2.8l to 3.8l supercharged

according to the link to 3800 proforum there are only 3 done like this, so i definately want it in mine. combined with other modifications, but none to the body, it will be very unique.
