Re: motor mount help?

Make sure the inserts aren't backwards either. The engine won't sit straight if they aren't right. The instructions will have the correct positions. It sucks when you find out after the engine is already in.

Re: motor mount help?

the metal tabs are in the correct orientation. is there any difference between left and right? from the looks of it they appear to be the exact same

just take the clam shells off the 305, or was there no engine when you got the car?

Re: motor mount help?

there was a 305 in it. i am reusing the original clamshells with the poly inserts. i tried reusing the part that mounts to the block and sits over the clamshell from the 305 but the holes dont line up. i even mounted the clamshell to the engine mount bracket and lowered it in that way and those holes wont line up either. the numbers on the side are 039436 from the 305 and i have a 15627282 and a 15627281 that were on the 350.

Re: motor mount help?

are these what you are working with? the clamshell bolts to the block and the 2 pieces with the insert bolts to the frame.

Re: motor mount help?

They aren't that bad. All you have to do is thread all the bolts first, then tighten them. It's only an issue when the rest of the suspension is in the way.

Re: motor mount help?

flip the metal pieces around, one pair of holes is wider than the other.

Re: motor mount help?

The holes line up when they arent on the block. I have them in the right direction. When i attach them to the block and lower it in they wont line up

Re: motor mount help?

I have always mounted them to the body first and then dropped in the engine and never had any problem.
I am making the assumption that since you had a 305 in there already that you are putting the new mounts in the V8 position and not the V6 spot.

The pic is of the old mount for a V8 on my 84.

Re: motor mount help?

Yes thats where i have them. I originally put them on the frame then lowered the block in and could only get the second bolt through the first hole. The bolt was atleast an inch off from the second hole. I did notice that the bracket wasnt seated on the metal tabs rights so ill try shaping the metal the fit better when i get home tonight.

Re: motor mount help?

I found on a different post on here that there are different pn for passenger and drivers side. The numbers i posted earlier only 039436 is for camaro, the passenger side. The other 2 are for whatever truck or van the 350 came out of. The other pn is 334971 which is for the drivers side. In the thread they argue about how usefull/useless that info is. Is it possible that it doesnt matter with the 305 but when installing a 350 with poly inserts it could mean that little amount i need to get the bolts to align?
