305sbc to a 396bbc what will I need?

Ok so Im new to the who swap thing. Right now I have a 89 Camaro vert, Don't know if its the rs or Iroc. its a 305sbc tbi and I want to Swap it with a 396 that my dad has at a shop. And I want to know if the motor will even fit I am Removing the ac componets because its a vert. And so I can have more room. Also want to know what transmission will fit the motor? want a 6 speed or 5 speed doesn't matter. its an auto. and also will I have to swap out the rear end the motor should be making around 500-550 N/A but in the future I will be going twin turbo or even single.

Are you taking the car off the street? No way is a BBC emissions legal.

Will it fit? Yes.

Transmissions? Mount the same as a SBC.

Swap out the rear end? Yes, unless you drive it like it has the 305 in it.

I have someone that can pass it for me.
Also what I meant about the transmissions is which one best fits the the motor not the mounts

SBC and BBC engines share the same bellhousing bolt pattern. The engine mount position on both blocks is also the same. Taking out a SBC and replacing it with a BBC doesn't change the position of the transmission or engine mounts.

The wider bore spacing of the BBC just means the front of the engine will sit forward more than the SBC does. The block is longer.

As stated above any trans that fits a SBC will work. The 6 speed will hold up, the 5 speed won't.

The flywheel required for a T56 may be an issue. The 396 is internally balanced but is a 2 piece rear main seal. You'll need a T56 specific flywheel to work with the engine.

A simple forum search for BBC and T56 should give you the answers you need however everyone normally swaps in a 454 which is externally balanced and uses a different flywheel/flexplate.

Don't even consider using the T5. GM didn't even put them behind 350's because they knew the extra torque would break it.

What are you going to do after he's prosecuted for fraud, fined out of business, and perhaps tossed in jail?

Just curious...
