Re: 1984 Firebird T/A 305 daily driver help
I dont know if this is realated to the problem but i took it to a shop my friend works at about a month ago and it lost power once but didnt stall and then lost power and stalled about 10 mins into the ride. I brought it home today and surprisingly it did not stall. a month ago the temperatures were pretty warm, and this morning when i brought it home it was about 0 degrees celcius
Check out this QuadraJet Tuning article, this may help.
For the fuel pressure, you just go pick up a gauge from Autozone. you will have to check pressure on the line coming from the pump up to the carb. you have a mechanical pump on the front passenger side of the car, it should be pushing out around 6psi. Is this leaking at all? Anyway, you'll have to pull the fuel line frmo the carb and to check pressure. Without showing you, I can't really describe it but it should be easy to figure out how to hook up the pressure gauge.

Re: 1984 Firebird T/A 305 daily driver help
Hey guys, I am now bent on putting an l33 engine in this car.the thing is I dont know where to start, I will be getting a lot of work on the car done, but I dont know which work to start doing. My plan right now is to get an engine lift, pull the engine and trans out of the car. Pull the interior out of the car, check for holes and rust spots (i do live in Canada, lol) and get the underneath and engine bay of the car cleaned and painted. Then do I start getting parts for the actual swap? I know I would need a new oil pan (hawks) and new injectors and an intake, along with a 4th gen belt setup. A computer (which I will have to get tuned later) and a digital to non-digital speedo box thing. I want to order that kit from hawks that has the tubular k-member, tubular a-arms, and motor mounts (I'llpost a link later tomorrow). Would that be a good starting point? Right now, I am planning to have the new engine and trans at least in the car by august. As for a trans, Ican get a good deal on a th400 but iI'm leaning toward buying a t56. Thanks

The L33 comes in trucks; mostly in front of a 4L60E.
I'd suggest that when you get your pullout, have them include the trans, ECM, and harness.
Don't worry about a 400. Save the T-56 idea for later.
Spend some time in the LSx sub-forum. (since the L33 is just one of the lesser members of that family) Every question you can imagine asking, plus a couple you might not have imagined yet, is discussed there.

Re: 1984 Firebird T/A 305 daily driver help
I was under the assumption that L33s come usually with 4wd transmissions, do i want that? a t56 rebuild is approx $1000 at hawks, i might be able to get one for cheaper at a local scrap yard. from the looks of it i also would benefit from getting the whole rear end of a 4th gen, trans (t56) to differential, i had my car checked, and it was really neglected. or would i just be better off sticking with the stock differential... as far as accesories go, would i have to get a 4th gen LS1 accessory setup? i know the alternator sits high on these engines.

You don't want a 4WD transmission. Converting to 2WD will basically require a complete redo of the tranny because the output shaft needs to be changed, and it's the first thing to go into the tranny case.
There is no benefit to the 4th gen rear end over a properly built 3rd gen rear. In the case of an '84, that would mean 28-spline axles, 28-spline posi carrier, support cover, and welding the axle tubes (although that isn't of great benefit with a torque arm setup). But, a 4th gen rear is wider, requiring different rims, and it'll still need a support cover and welded tubes, and factory axles aren't known for their strength (even though 4th gens will have 28-spline axles from the factory). So, the trade-off is between the cost of buying a 4th gen rear, upgrading it, and buying new rims, vs. the cost of upgrading your existing 3rd gen rear. Personally, I chose upgrading my 3rd gen rear.

By the way, if you continue down the L33 path, you'll want to start a new thread in the LTx/LSx Engine Swap subforum.
Or, I can move the posts about it here into a new thread in that subforum.

LOTS of L33s come in 2WD trucks. Get one of those, easier to make it work.
A T-56 would be an option as well but would likely require some computer work.
