Please, HELP me (Giulio from Italy)

Hi, I'm Giulio from Italy. I have a big problem:

My car is an '82 Pontiac Trans Am.
Engine is 305 5.0 V8 Crossfire injection.
I've changed Intake manifold (Edelbrock #2101) and I've add a carburator (Edelbrock #1406).
My friend tell me that I need a new distributor with vacuum advance. I don't now what type is correct for my engine. I don't know if I need mecanical or electronic. Please, can you help me? Thanks a lot

Old distributor (Crossfire) is on the left

Yes, you need a vac advance fully mech distributor, not an EST distributor like on FI systems

The one on the right will work, but it's a points-type distributor. You need a "ballast resistor" as well to drop the voltage down to 6 volts. You would wire it to the "BATT" wire from your original distributor.

But, I don't think you want to go that way. Twin_Turbo has the better route. You really want an electronic trigger type distributor, not points.

Re: Please, HELP me (Giulio from Italy)

You need one that looks like the one on the left but a non computer controlled version with a vacuum advance on it.

Any one of them should work, but the Pertronix is probably better quality than the others.

Better than the Pertronix. But, whether or not it is worth the extra money, that is up to you.

Re: Please, HELP me (Giulio from Italy)

But now i have a problem, they asked me if I have a SBC or a Pontiac engine . . . My engine was Lu5 crossfire injection, 305 5.0 V8. I've changed intake manifold (#2101 Edelbrock) and add a carburator (#1406 Edelbrock).

I have to buy a distributor for Pontiac or Chevy? :-(

You need a SBC chevy motor. All of our motors are chevy regardless of being a firebird or camaro.

So again you have a 305 SBC Chevy v8

Good luck
