Engine Swappin 305 to 350 Hecho en Mexico

Ok. First thank you 3rd Gen for the Birthday Wishes.
Now, down to bidness.
I save numerous parts from the factory 305 that I took out of my 87' Bird. It had and aftermarket 1406 Edelbrock carb, and a "Red" aftermarket Distributor. The "Newer", but "Older" 350, has an Edebrock Air Gap intake. When I tried to install the distributor onto the intake, it's about an inch too tall from the adjustment bolt. Should I look into a whole new Distributor, or am I missing something here because of the after market intake manifold on the 350.
Ps, since my absence, I scored a set of Chevy Headers and True Duals off an Old 77 Nova at LKQ here in Gainesville Florida. The whole package cost $62.00

Did you rotate the dist shaft to line up with the oil pump drive in the block so it will drop into position ?

Hopefully you can find someone to buy it, because none of it will fit a 3rd gen f-body.

Yes I did. I even turn the harmonic balance so the oil pump shaft would show the Number 1 Cylinder position on the Distributor for reassembly purposes. The Distributor itself just will NOT "seat" onto the Intake properly. There are no Obstructions on the Distributor. (Like in the Slot where the oil pump shaft goes) and there are no obstructions in the Block because I looked with a flashlight. The Older 305 distributor just seems to have a longer shaft???
Or I was thinkin maybe it had to do with the Air Gap intake?

The distributor shaft length hasn't changed since 1955. Doesn't matter if the intake is stock, "high rise", "air gap", or whatever.
