83 z28 engine swap

1984 camaro z28, I have no idea what to do, the car has a 305 that was run low on oil and locked up, need suggestions! I want power and reliability should I build up the 305 lg4 or I have a goodwrench 350 crate engine, also have a 350 lt1 but I don't know if it would work in the car what engine will work best with this?

Re: 83 z28 engine swap

The 350 is the best route to go for sure. Is your 350 the LT-1 or LT1.. Newer 1990's EFI, or classic 1970/71 with carb?

The EFI LT1 has been swapped in many times, but thats a higher dollar swap that takes more time and skill.

For simple pretty easy, cheaper priced swap a carb'ed 350 would be best route

Re: 83 z28 engine swap

The easiest and cheapest route would be the good wrench motor in place of the blown up 305. It may not be powerful in stock form but selling the lt1 and a few parts off the 305 can bring in cash for upgrades to the 350. Another option, although not the most practical, is to convert the LT1 to a carbed setup. More power than the good wrench motor but it is a little more costly then adding bolt ons to a traditional small block.

Re: 83 z28 engine swap

Thanks ,the lt1 is a new generation motor out of a 94 firebird and are anyparts from the lt1 interchangeable with the goodwrench 350 like the cam and heads? Also What suggested upgrades can be done to the goodwrench 350 like what are good headers what's a good intake? And will I have to change any electronics in the car to compensate the 350

Your electronics will be fine, if you go the Carb route then you'll want to take out your computer and either take out or tuck away any unused wires/connectors.

Re: 83 z28 engine swap

No, nothing on the lt1 will really interchange./work with the genI sbc.

With the goodwrench crate engine if your just looking for stock type power maybe alittle upgrade here and there.. Then use a performer intake, 600cfm carb, hooker short tube or hedman long tube headers 1-5/8" tubes, 3" collectors. Use a large cap HEI dist.

All of your electronics will be good to go.

If you want a little more out of the engine change the cam to a 204/214@.050"
