4 tech motor

I have a 1987 chevy s10 2.5 4 tech motor rebuilt not even two months old I was driving last night and motor making a strange grinding noise like when u shift into a wrong gear my transmission seams fine but the motor is under warranty

Take off the fan belt (belts?) and start it up, see if the noise is gone. Could be water pump or alternator maybe?

Well I took the belt off and it's still there I replaced the altnator bracket that was cracked in two and got it to start up but it sound like something internally that might be messed up like a bent valve or a bad piston ring might gone out or even spun a bearing somewhere when I hold the valve cover I can feel as well as hear it so could it be a bad valve
