Engine SwapEverything about swapping an engine into your Third Gen.....be it V6, V8, LTX/LSX, crate engine, etc. Pictures, questions, answers, and work logs.
Ok guys I know I've posted on here before about this swap but I got what I need ( I think) coming but most importantly is the motor is here (sitting in my kitchen) and the trans is on the way. Ok so I've pulled to old 2.8and t5 pressure washed the bay. Removed ac lines and cooler. (May use that as a big *** trans cooler) but that also means that whatever I don't need will be sold or just thrown away. I've labled most wires. Well probably just the most important ones. I'll delete what I don't need. I want simple as I can get. I'm going carbed. Any advice and help is appreciated
Sooooo I was going to do a torque arm delete ( not sure why I thought this was a good idea if I wasn't going to replace it with a 4link ) but long story short I figured out I can't just delete it. Soooo there's a $120 mistake as I've already bought the t56 mounting bracket with out torque arm mounts. I'll call up hawks and see if I can just return it. If not I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. They should take it back right. It's never been installed
Tranny is here. Only a few pieces left. Does anyone of the top of their head know if I can still reuse the drive shaft.
Until you grenade the 10-bolt. Then you'll need a better (and most likely shorter) drive shaft to go with the beefier aftermarket rear end you'll be installing.
What are you doing for fuel delivery?
I assume you have already figured out the engine mounts.
I plan on painting the car also. Black bay and a metallic charcoal grey on the outside. I'm also changing interior color from grey to black. Yes I'll get a new one with the Moser 9 I wana throw in it. It's only 5500. So got to save some for that one. Or go on another deployment. For fuel delivery I'm dropping the tank, not sure if I wana use a 4th gen tank or keep mine, but clean it out, gut the in tank pump and use an external pump. I've already got one and it's already set at 6.5psi.255lph. And go that route. I've already got the pump. Im pretty sure I'm going to take the hydro gear off of a 4th gen or buy a hyd kit because I will need the correct lines for the clutch. And yes I have correct motor mounts. I'll install them shortly. I work next 2 weeks straight. And then I'll put them on. I went with solid motor mounts just because I can. And when I was buying those items I didn't trust the poly ones. But I did get Polly for the trans.

Reason: Because I saw the answer
This will be the hidden switch to bring the car to life. Fuel. Ignition. Fans. And air for brakes. Still need to paint it again and laser etch it of what each one does and screw it down.
So I removed the v6 motor mounts yesterday. Dident take long. About 15 min for each side. Just 1 swivel and a long extension 3/8th drive. Wasent hard. No I didn't drop the a arm or anything. Superglued the washers to the nuts and the plan is to put the v8 mounts in as intended from top to bottom. Maybe it's the crew chief in me but top to bottom inbord to outbord fwd to aft. Also painted the bay aircraft flat black. Just some 2 part polyurethane spray paint I had.
Alright update is got a steel 4thgen tank gutted pump and ran hose inside it. Picked up the tank complete for $28. Got a new to me rear that is a built 10 bolt, has 4.10 gears and posi in it. Picked it up for $150. Swaped the rears today going to install the tank today. I know why not do the tank before you installed the rear. Well because I forgot until ibwas halfway putting the rear back in that's why
Alright haven't updated in a while but work has been getting done. Got the motor in with the solid mounts. The qt bellhousing had to have mods for my oil drain plug. The t56 magnum was a tight squeeze but it's in. The trans mount bushing don't line up so I'm making a plate for that today. Got wheels and tires on it. Picked up a "built" 10bolt with a locker and 4.10 gears, disc on the back. For $150
how did everything turn out? I am beginning to research my future 406 engines and I am looking for any info about the 406 from skip white performance you installed last year? I don't plan on going carburetor (going with a modern self learning EFI), but I was curious about any and all info you want to share about the powerplant. Thanks

everything has be good aside with the small issues ive had. im about to do a huge update because it has been a year since ive been on here, i got lazy.
the small issues i had was those nice wrapped headers i had wouldent fit the car. other issues is because i was and still am running solid motor mounts i get a few vibration issues like the distrib came lose and floated back and forth since i really tightened it i havent had issues. the header bolts kept backing out and im now so tired of that part so ill be getting my new bolts cross drilled for safety wire, my steering wheel just started coming lose all these are not huge issues but issues ive had, i did have my stock driveshaft cut down to 37 1/2 inches its still holding up. i blew up 1 26 spline gov lock 10 bolt. ive not got a 28 spline gov lovk 10 bolt. i ended up having to go with a 6 in cowl hood, i broke a shifter handle, havent had any issues with the stock t5 master, i dident have to cut the hole for the trans, its a tight fit but no hole had to be cut, ive got the t56 magnum and the tailshaft is longer then the 4th gen t56. ill be finding pix and vid now so i can up load them
WOW nice job, everything looks amazing. Where did you get that tensioner rod for the alternator love it.
Thanks, even after a year it's still just as strong as it was. I have no regrets doing it. That tensioner came with the motor. I'm sure you could find one just looking up a turnbuckle style tensioner for the SBC
