Blueprint 396 crate engine thoughts
I was thinking about the sp383 deluxe crate but it dosent have forged pistons. What are peoples thoughts on the blueprint 396 ( Bp3961ct) crate engine? It is cheaper and has forged pistons. I would like the option of nos in the future but im not sure about a blueprint engine

There's all kinds of debate on whether or not a sensor from "X" engine will work in "Y" engine, etc. etc., with valid arguments on either side. One of the Tech help/Admins on the Holley forums runs this GM 5.7 sensor on his 508" big block, so i thought it'd probably work in my 383. ....he'll go on to tell you, as i will, is that with any custom build, it's always on you to determine what IS and is NOT working. I went into the Holley software and actually set up the ECU for the sensor then watched to see what it was reading, etc. etc. ....for me, on my engine...it's working.

Re: Blueprint 396 crate engine thoughts
As for Blueprint.....just too many bad reviews. The only personal experience I have was a friend with a BP 355 and it ran great. ....but a quick search reveals too many negative comments for me to take the chance.
As a NON expert....I see 3 choices. Pay top dollar for a nationally recognized big name builder. Pay less, but still an honest market price for a trusted and respected local builder, or buy from GM. Just too much money, and labor in my opinion to risk spending money with mass budget builders. Others will have other opinions and I'm by no means the final word.

On the KS. I would check to see if part numbers vary year to year on a BB Chev. I suspect a roller cam block may have a diff sensor than a flat tappet block early EFI vintage(<87?).
