Difference between third gen and C4

I am looking at a 1991 C4 with a six speed. I am thinking about buying it and swapping the motor out of my car into that and the C4 L98 into my B4C. I am assuming the only difference is the oil pan to do the swap. Is there anything else that would have to change?

LOL. Just no. Get on Google and start reading, or pick up a copy of the TPI Swapper's Guide book if you really want to know. but there is literally nothing on a C4 L98 that is a worthwhile and logical upgrade in 2019. Everything is either the same, marginally better, completely different, or vastly outclassed by cheaper and easier modern alternatives. The valve covers are kinda cool?

The ZF six speed might be an interesting swap into a third gen.

The engine though - not worth the effort. A 96 to 2000 Vortec truck engine with a cam slap is a better choice. CHEEEEEP too.

Re: Difference between third gen and C4

I don’t want to swap the entire drivetrain. I was thinking that I would take my crate motor out and put it into the corvette and swap the corvette L98 into my Camaro. My car already has a t5 in it and I would never put a ZF in it. If I was to upgrade to a six speed it would be a tremec.

The 1992 Anniversary prototype had a ZF in it.

Sure, and the ZF just bolts right in... NOT! Sorry, the idea is so bad it deserves a jarring 1990's throw back.

Rip the heads and bits that are different to make the engine fit in Corvette, off the Vette L98, and you've got.... wait for it... Pretty much exactly the same engine as a thirdgen L98. By 2019 standards the heads are pretty much garbage and not even worth messing with. If you can buy an entire Corvette that runs well enough to justify it, you'd still be about a million light years ahead to just order some new Vortec heads from your GM dealer and a Scoggin Dickey intake. But if you've already got a new engine in the car, it'd probably be easier to just not have dumb ideas.

Is your round about idea you want the NEW engine in the Corvette and to put some clapped out used up garbage in the Camaro so you can sell it? I mean that makes more sense than getting a corvette as an engine donor for a Camaro with a new engine. I mean damn, just thinking that and transposing it onto the screen took a few IQ points out back and shot em in the head.

Yes that is what I was thinking. I wouldn't think a car with 30k on it that is well maintained would have a "clapped out used up garbage" motor. IDK what the problem with doing that is? I also know a ZF is not a direct swap. I believe the 1992 prototype car had a ZF in it and if I am not mistaken so did the 93 4th gens. So if someone wants to give it a shot they can try. Is that a good upgrade? Not in my opinion.

Pardon, what I was getting at is that a Corvette would have to be 'clapped out used up garbage' to justify ripping the engine out and stuffing it in a Camaro. Most people would leave a 30k mile car alone.

Well you're partially right, the ZF WAS used in the Firehawk and the prototype heritage cars, but 93-97 were Borg Warner T56 cars, a vastly better transmission and much easier to swap. The ZF swap makes the T56 look like a bolt in replacement. The floor had to be hacked up, special bellhousing cut and welded together to fit the thirdgen body, special crossmember for mounting and also with torque arm mount relocation... Pretty much as far as you can get from a direct swap.

Personally I'd leave both cars alone.

You are correct. The 4th gens all years came with a t56. The 1993’s had two different t56’s available depending on the axle ratio. I knew there was something different with the 1993’s transmission for some reason I thought it was a ZF.

You can get a super nice C4 for 6-7k. The one I wanted is gone.
