Engine SwapEverything about swapping an engine into your Third Gen.....be it V6, V8, LTX/LSX, crate engine, etc. Pictures, questions, answers, and work logs.
So I am in the process of swapping out a v6 5 speed for a 95 Camaro Z28 LT 6 speed in my 92 Camaro RS. I want to relocate the A/C compressor to the driver side of the engine to give it a balanced look (IMO). I am using Bowers' A/C Relocation Bracket Kit. The engine came with BBK headers with A.I.R smog pump ports. Unfortunately, the back of the relocated A/C compressor will sit directly on top of the smog pump port. I live in CA so emissions compliance is required so I can't delete the port. I have a few thoughts on solving this issue.
1. Relocate the smog port a few inches back but that would modify the header so it may not pass inspection.
2. Find a shorter A/C compressor but that may be impossible to find.
3. Notch the K-member an forget about relocating the A/C compressor which is not the desire end result.
Does anyone have any experience with this issue? I prefer to find headers with the smog port in a different location on the driver side header.
smog pump port on the both headers. The alternator clears the port on the passenger side however the port on the driver side prevents the installation of the relocated A/C compressor.
Alternator on the left and A/C compressor on the right
smog pump port inhibits installation of relocated A/C compressor
I would move the port back further on the header, since it has aftermarket headers I don't think moving it will cause a failed inspection.
The a/c compressor on an LT1 swap is a real pain.
I cut up my bracket and made a couple of extra brackets for my LT1,I have the a/c on top and alt on the bottom.
Mine is crude looking, but another member on here did the same but he had his made by a fabricator.
LT1/TA thanks for the response. I contacted a CA B.A.R. representative. I was told a referee would call me back in a day or two to discuss the issue...we'll see.
Crude looking or not, at least yours is running. I noticed your heater hoses. Did you keep the heater control valve?
