305 to 350 upgrade
305 to 350 upgrade
I have a 1986 z28 that needs some TLC. Going to be stripping it to its bare bones.
It has a stock 305 and majority of seals are gone so I want to pull it and rebuild, and add some performance parts.
I got a 350 SBC four bolt main block and want to put this kit on it, along with all my other 305 parts from the current engine.

Will this kit work with my 350+305 hybrid?
Aside from pistons, is there anything else I should worry about?Additionally, would a 305 or a 350 rebuild kit work better? I have a feeling since I'm mixing so many parts neither one is going to be a guarantee to have everything.
And will the 305 TPI work fine on the 350 or should I worry about my fuel injection system?
Any other kits or part recommendations would be appreciated too!
It is meant to be a budget build. So $2-3k.
Thanks for your help!

You would need the bigger injectors for a 350 for one and a tune of some type/ECM.

Is your 350 a short block or does it have heads? The 305 heads are going to limit power if you use them. Have you opened up the 350 to see what kind of condition it is in?? Looking into that stuff might be helpful to determine what you are going to have to spend money on.
I think the entire induction system will bolt up as long as you do not have a vortech 350.
I am looking at the same thing with my 83 Z28. A cousin offered me a 350 for free as he only builds LS motors now so I am debating what to do with mine. The only thing I would suggest is looking at a roller camshaft for more power, easier break in and no adding a zinc additive every oil change to prevent premature cam failure.
Good luck with your build and keep everyone posted....with pics!

The LB9 heads will do OK on a 350. Compression will be a lil higher but they flow better some of the old smogger 350 heads I would imagine. You could use something like a 268 cam and upgraded spring kit on the heads with a tune and have a pretty healthy engine WITH the TPI. You should try to retain your FI its a great system and the car is worth way more with it intact. If you were building a "race car" id say go carbed.
