Engine SwapEverything about swapping an engine into your Third Gen.....be it V6, V8, LTX/LSX, crate engine, etc. Pictures, questions, answers, and work logs.
I purchased a bracket from Hawks that claims to be a shifter cable bracket for installing a 4L60E into a 3rd Gen. I have not been able to figure out how it attaches, and Hawks has not provided me any photo evidence that this will work, I have asked 2-3 times. Have any of you purchased this bracket and how did you install it? Hawks says that it is supposed to mount in the trans pan bolt holes but it does not fit there. Any clues would be helpful.
There is an arm that mounts to the shift shaft on the 60e if you have the original arm from your 700r4 it will work too. the bracket mounts to the underside where the pan is.

I do have the arm, just didn't have it in the first photos because I didn't think it mattered in regards to the bracket. "But in most all of them the bracket is mounted further backwards from where you have it positioned in your images.
Use the image below as an example:" Thanks for the image, in my case the location seems to be a little further forward. See new images that show the cable with the arm, both the trans and shifter are in Park. To move from Park to the other gears you pull back on the shift lever and it pulls the arm on the trans through the gears, that all seems to be correct. That means that the cable bracket has to line up with the shift cable housing in this location. Per Hawks I am supposed to mount the bracket as I am holding it in these new pictures with notes. You can see that there is NO WAY that this bracket will fit this application. I have again asked for photos from Hawks but unless they are using a different bracket they will never be able to provide photos of this thing working, it just wont. Don't waste $50 !
Voltage Drop - The original donor vehicle had a 4L60E but it was 4x4, so I just found a 2 wheel drive version of the same trans hoping that it might save any issues with final drive ratios, engine management (ie when the computer was telling the trans to shift), etc. I just felt there were fewer variables with staying with the 4L60E, maybe right, maybe wrong .... we'll see once it's on the road =)
