Will a 4l60E from a 2000 v6 camaro work fine on a 5.3 from a 2005 silverado?
Will a 4l60E from a 2000 v6 camaro work fine on a 5.3 from a 2005 silverado?
Just got a 1985 Camaro and I'm planning to swap a 5.3 out of a friends silverado. I have a 4l60e trans from a fourth gen v6, just wanting to know if I can use that trans on it or if I would absolutely need a trans from a same year silverado?

This would NOT be a "direct swap" as there are multiple versions of the 4L60E Transmission.
However, parts can be exchanged to make the swap.
Two wheel drive, and Four wheel drive Silverado Trucks use different 4L60E Tail-Housings and different Output-Shafts from one another.
Is the Silverado Two wheel drive or Four wheel drive?
I need to know what year the 4th-Gen F-Body is... and which V6 Engine it has.
There are multiple versions of the 4L60E Transmission, that were used in 4th-Gen F-Bodies.
They are two categories of differences... external differences (meaning fitment), and internal/ electrical differences (meaning wiring, solenoids, and a matching PCM).
The 4 different versions (4th-Gen F-Body) Externally are:
-One piece Case for the three different V6-Engines.
-Two piece Case for the Buick 3.8L V6-Engine.
-One piece Case for the Gen-2 (LT1) SBC-Engine.
-Two piece Case for the Gen-3 (LS1) SBC-Engine.
The 6 different versions (4th-Gen F-Body) Internally/ Electrically are:
-1993 version.
-1994 version.
-1995 version.
-1996 through 1997 version.
-1998 through 2000 version.
-2001 through 2002 version.
The following Parts differ between the different versions of the Transmission (externally):
-Bellhousing.
-Pump/ Stator-Support.
-Input-Shaft.
-Torque-Converter.
-Linkage.
The following Parts differ between the different versions of the Transmission (internally/ electrically):
-Valve-Body.
-Separator Plate and Gaskets.
-Internal Wiring Harness.
-Switches and Solenoids.
-External Wiring Harness.
-PCM.
Let me know what you have (Transmission year and type of Engine used... as well as what year the 5.3L and 2WD or 4WD).
I will let you know what you will need for the swap.

Wow that is the most detailed response I could've asked. So the 4L60E comes from a 2000 Camaro with a 3.8L v6, and the 5.3L Silverado is 2005 and is 2WD

-Bellhousing.
-Pump/ Stator-Support.
-Input-Shaft.
-Torque-Converter.
Would all have to be changed on the older 4L60E, for the Parts intended (and properly fit) for the 2005 Silverado.
The Tail-Housing and the Output-Shaft do not need to be changed (they fit the Torque-Arm Suspension used for F-Body Cars).
The Silverado version also would use a deeper Oil-Pan and Filter... but would probably cause a ground clearance issue with your Camaro (so keep the shallow Oil-Pan and Filter).

Any 2001 through 2006 two wheel drive, full-size Pick-Up or SUV (any of the 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L Engines are fine; it doesn't matter).
The only additional Part that you would need to obtain, is a Tail-Housing for a Torque-Arm Mount (unless you have relocated your 3rd-Gen Torque-Arm off of the Transmission).

I have an 88 T/A and am in the process of re building a 5.3 out of an 02 Yukon. Will a 4l60e out of a 98 Camaro Z28 work perfectly? Meaning no mods… Thank you!
