Engine SwapEverything about swapping an engine into your Third Gen.....be it V6, V8, LTX/LSX, crate engine, etc. Pictures, questions, answers, and work logs.
Hey guys I will be swapping my 89 Iroc 350 TBI to a 6.3 383 stroker specs below. I have a dilemma the stroker is carbed and I current have the TBI system. What is involved in the swap? Should I stay carbed or upgrade to an Holley sniper? What are the pros and cons or issues I may run into.
It would take a lot of tuning to run that engine on TBI, It would also take a higher PSI fuel pump, Vortec style intake.. Doable but much easier and probably better in long run to throw a Holley Sniper or FI-Tech on there and let it pretty much tune itself. I upgraded my TBI system for my engine and it wasn't cheap and still had to get someone to burn me a chip for it and If I had it to do over mine would have a Holley Sniper on it now. Carb would be simple also but fuel injection sure is nice for obvious reasons.
I was thinking of just getting the mater kit I think Holley sends it with the fuel pump. But going from TBI to EFI not sure If I need all that comes in the kit. What was your experience?
I considered that kit too but I did not want an external fuel pump. Instead I got a new pickup off rock auto, installed a 255lph pump and modified the pick up and return tube then ran soft lines to the sniper unit. I am glad I went internal pump I would not have enjoyed hearing the pump running under the car all the time.
You can probably get a thirdgen pump upgrade, install it in the stock pickup. Modify the feed line to meet the sniper it should already be 3/8 then run a 3/8 return and modify the pickup to work with it.
+1 to all of the bolt on fuel injection kits, they work very well and are quite easy to install. You will need a new fuel system. There is really no point in going old school carburetion when fuel injection is so (relatively) cheap. Be wary of knockoff walbro 255's, buy from a good website.
