v6 in tank fuel pump to v8 mechanical fuel pump

I pulled the v6, and am replacing it with a 355 that's carbed. I will be running a mechanical fuel pump. I need to eliminate the v6 in-tank fuel pump, in favor of mechanical. I assume I need to pull the hard lines on the chassis. Can anyone help guide me on how to do this? Do they make a fuel tank cap I can run fuel line to without having the v6 pump in the gas tank? Not sure how to approach this one.

I assume
Don't EVER do that.

No, you do not.

Of course not. That would be an unbelievably stooooopid death trap.

Pretty simple really. Pop the fuel pump "module" out of the tank; remove the pump; put in a piece of metal line (stick of brake line from AZ is perfect) that reaches to the bottom of the tank, with a little "hockey stick" end to it so that it lays more or less flat along the bottom of the tank for an inch or 2, in the same general area the FP used to be at; put one of these on the end of it. https://us.amazon.com/ACDelco-TS1000.../dp/B000C9S902 Then all you need to deal with is the parts under the hood; the fuel lines (pressure AND return) need to be re-routed so they go from wherever they are now, to the lower right front corner of the block.

You can keep the stock pump and use a pressure regulator in the engine bay suitable for carburetor operating pressure. The stock pump will flow gobs and gobs of fuel at low pressure, you won't use it up.

Re: v6 in tank fuel pump to v8 mechanical fuel pump

Some of the Quadrajet Cars came with (or had installed, after Vapor-Lock Issues) a Low-Pressure in-tank Electric Fuel Pump...
to be used with the Mech. Fuel Pump.

I used to install these Electric Fuel Pumps to feed High Flow Aftermarket Mech. Fuel Pumps (when I had Carb'd Customer's Cars)...
as part of a return style Fuel System.
Usually the return style Fuel Pressure Regulator would be installed just before a Holley 4150, and then branch off to return fuel back to the Fuel Tank.

I much prefer this over a "Dead Head" system... and when done as I described, keeps the Fuel and the Mech. Pump running cooler.

I have pulled my ECM, can I still use the electric fuel pump? I've heard the ECM controls the relay for the fuel pump. Trying to figure out if I should just use my mechanical fuel pump.

spend an hour on google learning some dc automotive electrical basics and schematics. then, wire up the fuel pump relay to come on when the ignition switch is in run and start positions. add a return style fuel pressure regulator up front for carb fuel pressure. use the factory fuel filter installed on the frame rail.

or, rip everything else out of the car and run a rubber hose from the mechanical pump to a plastic gas jug zip tied to the fender.
