Late model 302, 4.3 crank in 5.7 block
Has anyone done this swap using the 95 4.3 v8 crank and rod swap in a late model 5.7 block and then using the TPI on it in an Iroc?
I have the #98 Morrison Cook Iroc and not sure if it will get vintage raced once restored but right now toying with engine combinations. I have both 305 and 350 TPI engine cores and originally was going to build an aluminum headed 350 TPI for it leaving it looking like the stock 305 but know that wouldnt pass tech if they p&g it. Building a 305 to go back in it seemed kinda a waste to me but then ran across someone talking about building a modern day 302 using the 5.7 block and pistons with the 4.3 L99 [ baby LT1] crank and rods.
I have an Edelbrock TPI lower but will be running stock appearing runners and plenum as well as the cast Iron exhaust manifolds to keep the car as stock appearing as possible. Most of my TPI stuff has been bone stock or close to it in the past so lets hear your thoughts on this.

I've never built one, but did save the crank out of one for a possible future project.
The early 302's were more high strung and made their power in the upper RPM range. I think you'd run out of air flow trying to use TPI on top of it. Sure it'd work, but wouldn't be optimal.

I think we are going to try it just to see how it stacks up against the 305. I've got both 305 and 350 TPI cores we can build as well and if it doesnt work out in the Iroc I have other Camaros we can toss it in with an intake change. I did pick up a nos 4.3 L99 crate engine that had been in storage since the mid 90's so have a brand new crank and set of rods we can use.
Looking at HSR and SVRA rules that combo would more than likely not pass tech anyway so if we got serious about it we would have to build a "legal" engine.
