Why not use the factory carb, distributor and have it run better, maintain wiring and get better MPG?

Get a wiring diagram (plenty on here) and trace out the wires that you need (oil pressure, temp, tach, ignition, etc.), which won't be many. The unused you can either leave unplugged and tuck away or, for an even cleaner job, trace back and remove completely.

Thats too bad you don't have the factory carb and distributor it would run that built 350 way better than the 1406 could ever hope to. Most of the factory gauges are one wire deals just attach to a sensor. Nothing all that different from a 305 to 350. Get the sensor put in the hole attach the wire life will be good. I think Dark Green is temp and brown is oil pressure.

You can download wiring diagrams here http://www.austinthirdgen.org/?pid=19

Re: 1984 camaro 305 to 350 carb

The 1406 is edelbrocks basic tuned for MPG 600 cfm carb designed in the 50s it does the job and most people just bolt on and go. You will most likely have to change rods and jets based on the motor you swap in. A wide band O2 setup with a vac gauge will help you tune it right. The Q jet is 750CFM and has smaller primaries that help low throttle driving. Its really up to you. One will allow the computer to control timing and mixture the other is all manual setup with a specified curve that when tuned right may still not be as good.

The best thing I did to my car was ditching the tuned edelbrock and going EFI. If you plan on doing that soon just run the edelbrock, tune it and then EFI next year.
