cam

i have a 91 RS 305tbi and plan on dropping a 350 in soon. It will just be a stock 350 except with some headers attached and a cam. The rest i will do as i get the money. I plan on putting on AFR 190 heads, 454 tbi with #90 injectors,Edelbrock TBI intake bored to fit 454, and definantly custom burned prom. But when i put the 350 in i never want to take it out again so now i need to decside on a cam that will still let me pass smog in CA. I dont really know if a cam has that much to do with emmissions or not but i will still have my cat on and all my smog equipment, so what is the best cam for me?(I am trying to get as muchhorse power as my rear can handle if any one wants to know)

The cam can have an effect on emissions with regard to valve overlap. Typical performance cams leave the exhaust valve open a little longer to suck more intake charge in as the exhaust is finishing going out. This can put unburnt fuel into the exhaust, which means higher hydrocarbon emissions.

Call the cam companies and tell they what you've got planned. They should be able to set you up with something that works.

I'm using the Crane Compucam (2030 was the old part #)Hydraulic Roller.
It's a good TBI cam for a 350, but with the better
heads and 454 TB you'll be using, you could go a bit bigger.Mine is 204/214 duration @.050" and .429/.452" lift,W/ 116 degree L/C.This is a very computer-friendly cam, mainly because high vac signal produced by the 116 degree L/C.Try to stay in the 112-116 degree area.
My motor is internally stock other than the cam, with headers,Edelbrock Performer TBI intake,Turbo City Ported TB and adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator and I only have to put the stock air cleaner back on it to pass smog in CA.
