L99 6L80 Swap into 87 IrocZ
I am looking for any and all recommendations things to look out for while making the swap.
Engine transmission out of a 2010-15 Camaro SS.
It seems like it's pretty straight forward when it comes to installing the engine, there are not many posts about installing the 6L80. I have seen a YouTube video of a guy putting one in his 3rd gen firebird without cutting the trans tunnel. I have also seen the guy on this forum where he cut the tunnel and raised it 1.5 inches. I am going to try and avoid cutting.
I don't have any experience installing engines and transmission in 3rd gen Camaros. I have a 4-post vehicle lift would it be easier to install engine transmission from the bottom?
I know I'm going to have to address the gear ration and possibly an axle upgrade, currently 2.43 gear and it has the 7.5 rear.

I Think your rear gear is probably a 273 , you can change rearends later but the 273 will give you a chance to try that ratio to see what you are getting into. Remember that the 6L80 has a 4 to 1 low gear ratio. I started with the 273's and then went to 331's, 273 or 308 might be the sweet spot . If you are using a L99 engine be aware of the differences with the LS3. If you are using the 6L80 from the Camaro You will either need to convert it to a truck style slip yoke or use an adapter to a u-joint and then put the slip in the drive shaft. I am happy to help if I can . GOOD LUCK !

I always dropped the engine in first. Then bolt up the trans from under after making the cooler lines.

I daily a truck with 31 or 32" tires, 6L80, and 3.08 rear. Keep the 2.73 for a while. And it's slip-ypke, to boot.
