vette motor swap?
vette motor swap?
I was offered a friend who works in a insurance yard a motor from a 2001 corvette with 15K for a very good price. Should I attempt a swap into my TPI T/A? How much of a PITA would it be? what else from the car would I need? thanks...are all SBC motors using the same mounting? would I be able to keep the TPI? I was going to get the motor as a complete block with heads, valve covers, timing chain and cover no intake or injection. For more (alot) I can get the complete setup which would be out of my price range. If this wont work can I use a Vortec from a late model with a base and injector swap instead?
TPI will not work with the LS1. The LS1 is a totally different block compared to the standard SBC. If you want the LS1, you gotta get the whole package. The Vortec swap would be a hella lot easier because it follows the standard SBC setup. The only problem is that the Vortec uses a different intake pattern, than the TPI.
You'd need EVERYTHING from the LS1. Its TOTALY different than the chevys before the LS1. Nothing is interchangeable. You'd need to computer from it too. As for the Vortec, if its the new vortec that is LS1 based (1999 and newer) you can use a Vortec intake and its supposedly a good HP gain. Even better than the LS6 intake. shoot this guy an email as he sells NEW ls1s with the truck(vortec) intake and accessory setup. ValveGod@aol.com
He can get me a late model Vortec with about 20K on it. If it is just a matter of an intake swap on the Vortec I will possibly go that route.
I also have an 89 L98 from a GTA sitting in my garage with 120K on it not leaking oil and compression was good on all cyl. when I removed it.
Should I go for a rebuild on that L98 or if I get the Vortec for cheap would that be a better way to go. Will the acc. bolt up to the Vortec without problems? thanks
