Recon engines

I looking at putting a 350 into a 88 Camaro to replace the 305. I was looking at getting one from Recon or getting one from Autozone. Any suggestions??

Goto www.sdpc2000.com or another comparable engine retailer. You can get a crate GM Goodwrench moter for about 1800 or so... Thats what i plan on doing.

Bolted right up!

I had no problem with it.

The minor differences in the block are that there are 3 bolts for accessories instead of 5. You can have them machined on the heads, or get the right heads for your particular car made. The engine is internally balanced vis-a-vis the externally balanced 305 so you will need to get a new flywheel.
Other than that it was fine.
Hope that helps ya!

I had a Recon Engine for 30,000 miles. After 15,000 (when the warrenty ran out), one of the lifters collapsed. No big deal. At 30,000 miles the rear main seal blew out on the interstate. No more engine. This was a 2.8L however. Take the time to build the engine your self, or buy a new one from GM. I don't think you will regret it.

Well....

I guess with Recon I didn't get the standard remanufactured motor. The particular motor I got was done by one guy and it was a wait that was forever. However, while the motor was being built, we went through all the details.... and yes, it did cost quite a bit more than a stock replacement rebuilt.
Then again, I have a 3 year / 36,000 warranty on it too.
Might be the difference why I went with my Recon engine.
It was a good experience being able to talk to the guy as the motor was being built to my spec!
