best way to go? money in engine or shortblock...
hey guys,
the 305tpi in my '86 IROC is toasted.. I'm gonna put a 350 in probably in about 2 months.. what's the best way of going about this?
I have about 750 to spend right now. I can get a cheap 350 that's rebuilt and ready to drop in for $495 down in San Fernando or I can go down there and get a bored block with crank, rods and pistons and take it to a shop and have it balanced for about 650..
the engine for $495 is a longblock but the one that would be balanced would cost me about 650 because I would be getting it unassembled (cheaper) and then balanced (more expensive)..
which way should i go? it'll cost a bit more to do it the better way but I need to do the job fast.. as well, i will be going later with some aftermarket heads, probably the World Products or something similar..
ideas? what oil pump? cam? the engine for $495 comes with a cam but what would be recommended for a daily driven 350 in SoCal? the cam will be roller..
thanks!

well if you are going to buy a short block and kep the TPI I would go with Vortech heads, Comp cams Hydrolic roller cam, roller lifters/rocker arms, as far as the oil pump I'd go with a high volumn one probably melling, they make a good pump.
hope this helps

What?
All you need to do is adjust the pressure via an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. The pumps are the same.
