Good luck on the final portion of your swap! Looks pretty good.

Is a t5 stong enough for that motor?

Why put an LG4 in the car? Because I got it for $100 complete with accessories, wiring harness and computer. Plus, the car is prepped for road racing, and A lot of the classes I want to compete in require a 305 V8.

Im glad you asked!!!

First off, its an LG4 305 putting out 190hp/245 Ft.Lbs if Im lucky. Lots of other people Ive talked to have done this and not broken their tranny.

As far as the input shaft goes, I bought a V8 bellhousing, pressure plate and clutch disc. I sent the V6 disc and V8 disc to a tranny shop and had them put the V6 disc hub into the V8 disc. Voila!!! Magically the V8 disc will now fit on the 14 spline input shaft. Im gonna autox the car and use the V6 T5 till I can get a WC T5. Pretty neat, huh...

What all did you do to the LG4? If it's stock, then you don't have 190hp. The L69 305HO is in the 180-190hp range, but the LG4 only had 140 or 150HP. Correct me if I'm wrong. I have the L69 in my Monte Carl SS. Anyway, sounds like you got a good deal on the engine. I could never find a V8 with everything for $100.

I agree that you will probably blow up that T5, especially with the abuse of racing. You would be better off with a V8 T5. My brother races autocross and I am surprised he hasn't killed his tranny yet. He has a V6 Chevy Citation, but it's no 2.8L-- 3.4L, home-made FI, lowered, bigger tires and brakes, and it kicks butt!! He is out there spanking the V8's on the track. By the way, how much did it cost to have the shop modify the clutch? Anyway, cool car!! Have a good one.

The 87 LG4 had 170hp and I believe 232 ft lb. Ive got some valve work done, and 1 5/8" headers and it will breath through 3" exhaust and a Dynomax round muffler, with no cat.

Sounds like a pretty good combo. Did you swap cams or keep the stocker? Keep us informed on how things are going.

I apologize for my ignorance with the HP ratings. Most of my experience with 305's has been in G-bodies (Monte Carlo, Cutlass, etc.). Even though the G's are heavier cars, they had weaker engines. Doesn't make sense to me. I am anxious to get my Monte to the track to see what the little 305 will do. Then it gets yanked for a 350 TPI later this summer. Have a good one.

Matt

Actually I was off on my hp rating. Its 165hp stock not 170

Its still got the stock cam in it. Im not gonna do any power mods till I get a WC T5. I will mod the hell out of the suspension though so it handles like a champ!

Ill keep you informed on project possible exploding T5!!!

Since the LG4's were 165Hp, what were the L69's rated for in the Camaros? My L69 in my Monte was rated for 180 HP stock(I think). Did they have more power in the Camaros? I know the Camaro L69's had the dual snorkel air cleaner and different exhaust, but I am curious if the long block was any different. Thanks and have a good one.
