Gonna Buy The 330hp 350 From Gm - Ideas???

Listen, Im only 15, my step-dad's a mechanic, and I have annoyed him enough lately asking questions, so I turn to my faithful message board.

http://www.mortec.com/sbcratemotors.html

The description on this site of GM's 350 engine with 330hp says I need intake.

After I get the engine, I am gonna change the cam, headers, maybe chip, etc. Someone please take a look at this engine for me, and tell me what I am gonna need to buy.

thanks

it says right there on the page what you need, even provides part numbers for the crate motors one of which is a longblock with intake carb hei flexplate and some other stuff. you need to read the webpages you link for the information you need rather then have someone else look for it....

lemme guess, you want us to come install the motor too?

You need to understand what you're getting. We need to know what you're putting it in, what induction you intend to use, and whether emissions inspection or testing is a factor.

The key is the line that says "64cc Vortec L31 cast iron straight plug heads". These heads were designed for trucks, and use a unique intake port design and intake bolt pattern. Depending upon what induction you plan on using, the correct manifold will cost you between $175 and $400. If emissions are a factor, you need to do something to make the EGR valve functional since the heads don't have exhaust cross-over passages.

The cam change isn't any big deal, since it uses a common flat tappet design. But, again the heads were designed for trucks, so the valve springs can't handle much more lift than the cam it comes with, so you need to upgrade the valve springs if you change the cam.

Headers just make sense, no matter what else you do or don't do. SLP, Hooker, Hedman, Edelbrock would all work. The exhaust forum has extensive discussions of the relative merits of each. The rest of the system (cat & cat-back) would also provide benefits if upgraded.

Just wondering why you'd take a nearly complete 330HP engine and change everything in it?? If you want to add your own cam, heads, etc. buy a short block not a long block.

I didn't do that swap
My sig has a parts list of everything you would need to keep TBI.
I also have the step by step to make the swap a 2 day project or a week if you take your time, bs with friends, and forget to order some parts like a waterpump and balancer!
