I have a 92 RS that came with a TBI 305 and 5 speed trans.Last year I swapped in a crate motor from www.goautocenter.com.Their 300 HP TPI crate motor's based on a 93 Caprice Short Block, Cast Iron TPI heads and Crane Compucam(hydraulic roller). I got it with the optional TBI cam (compucam 2030) and it cost $1855 plus shipping.
Been real happy with it.
I used 350 truck injectors, Turbo City throttle body and AFPR, Custom Chip, SLP Headers,3" cat,3" Flowmaster cat-back, Edelbrock Performer TBI Intake, Etc.
Motor actually made about 315 HP at 5000RPM (at the flywheel)

why do want to keep the TBI?

 

You want to keep it because tbi is very easy to tune.

 

and because i beleive it can still provide power

 

so is it cheaper to get a "Base" HO 350 crate engine from GM. it needs a distributor, water pump, intake manifold, and ill get the holley TBI injectors.

the base engine is $2200 so with the rest of the stuff will it be less than building a 350 from scratch and have at least 330HP
