Need Power

Currently my friend and i are rebuilding a 305 tbi. We used the block from an 84 4bbl HO and used the heads, distributor, intake and everything above that from the 88 tbi we are putting it in. I put in an Edelbrock Performance RPM cam shaft which I was told put out 40-60 extra hp. What i was wondering which hp reading is right. The 84 said the motor stock was 190, and the 88 we are putting it into is 220. So what am i starting with? Also i am not into Nos but i would like to make the car about 350hp. I thought about rocker arms, headers, performance thottle body if they make it? and a chip. Is that hp ideal? If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Also what is the signifigance of the gear ratio's in the back? I am also adding a different hood with a 2 inch rise in it, would an high rise intake add any hp to this. I am just getting into this and dont know much about this car, but i am learning quickly so if these questions sound retarded, forgive me.

Key to good engine performance & power is a good combo.

1st thing, u want serious ponies out of that 305 throw those heads out. You will have to go to an aftermarket head. Secondly, i would do a retro-fit roller cam conversion. Then get yourself a good intake/cam/carb combo. Make sure your tranny is up to par, and you have a good set of rear gears.

The cam will not make 60HP....but it could, with the right flowing heads & enough RPM.

Sit down, give us a realistic diagram (not sayin your not being realistic) and how much $ you can put towards....and we will try to give you a good strong running setup.

Good Luck.

Thanks for replying,

Here goes, I am a college student and so far i have put probably 1200 into just the engine. Everything on the engine has been shop cleaned that needed to be, near bearings including cam, and everything else new. I just paid 255 to get the same heads but from a speed shop. They said they had everything done to them. I am thinking just stock nothing else special like that. Also for some reason I am into edelbrock, just because I have been told the name was good and products were good. Well here is what i want to add. First off i am giong to turn it into ram air, by this i am putting another tube from the air cleaner to the front just like the other. Second off, i am going to do most of this stuff in the summer. I want to add a Performer rpm intake high rise, dual exhaust with headers if you can. A superchip after everything else is done and have them custom do it to what i have in the car. I would like to add 3:73 gear ratio to the back even though i dont know what it is, so if you could tell me what it does I would appreciate it. A performance Throttle body, I was going to put a carb on it but i was told my gauges in the car wouldnt run. Came to find out they would, but it was basically to late. If i went with heads what kind would recomend and if i did would you recomment me putting performance rocker arms or does Edelbrock already do that? I am having the tranny rebuilt in a few weeks, so i dont think that will be a problem. I would say i would like to put no more into 2500 into it. If that gives you a better idea and you think that much money would do. I want this to be my dream car. I am totally restoring this car and i want it done by summer. I plan on doing the work myself. The cam you were talking about. Why is a roller cam better then the ed. pro. rpm? Does it put out more torque. Also i was thinking about putting a aluminum driveshaft into it, would you recommend that? So basically i am into Edelbrock, with the cam that i have, the intake, what heads and throttle body from edelbrock or any other company would you recommend?
