Update on my 305TPI to LT1 swap
Here are a few pics from tonight.

We finally got the 305 out of the Trans Am.

Engine bay is nice and empty now.

Here is my brother taking a break after tying up the y-pipe so we can push the car out into the driveway.

Removing the Center Force Dual Friction clutch from the 305 to be put on the LT1.

Here I am trying to clean up the fuel rails, I am pretty tired at this point, about 2am when pic was taken.
Tomorrow I'll clean the motor up, drop the pan and look at the bearings, see what I can remove, etc......
Going to bed, need some rest.

Only a few days more and everything should be done, hopefully.
JPrevost, I just looked at your swap pictures, looks just like us pulling my motor.
How is that Vortec motor working? I bet it screams.

It screams but gets muffled by me Summit brand 3" muffler
. Oh well, good enough for a 102mph pass with barely any tuning means something
.
You need to get that to the track when you do the swap. I'm a little disapointed there are so many engine swaps going on but very few actually take their car to the 1/4 mile
, g-tech doesn't count

Man you make me sick
j/k. You car is getting too damn cool
. Seriously, you seem to have lots a spare time and money. Or maybe you are way better at finding the good deals. Anyway, I can't wait to see that car done.

I actually have no money and no time. It may look like I am loaded but I am far from it.
I plan on taking her back to the track when I get a tranny in her, the T5 won't last a hard launch I am told, and I launch hard, 2.009 60tf times with my 305 LG4 and a 5 speed.
I'll take her to the track with the T5 but I am not going to drive her hard.

Hey Zepher how much did that motor cost? I'm guessing ( and hoping
) that Caprice LT1s go for less than their aluminum head counterparts? Knowing me I'll probably blow my modded 305 sky high ( killing trans with stock motor
) so I'll probably end up doing this swap sometime.

Are you using the smog pump if no how did you delete it smaller belt or did you find a pulley let me no what you did at mattz@chartermi.net thank
I am going to do the swap in the fall and need all the pointers I can get
Good luck sweet car!! 5.0 killer for sure

I paid $1,000 for it, complete with intact harness and PCM. It is a 95 with less than 50K on it.
Iron heads flow better than the aluminum ones, btw.
I took off the A/C since I have T-Tops and makes the engine bay look cleaner.
They sell an A/C Delete pulley, which I might have to get since I am not sure if I can route a smaller belt and make all the accessories spin the correct way, not sure if they have to spin a certain way, I'll check that out.
The Smog pump is electric so all you do is take it off and remove the hoses.

Zepher,
I have a T-5 sitting behind my LT1 right now in the GTA. It is holding up just fine. Try looking for a T-56. I found one and am planning on an installation in the near future. The T-5 runs fine behind the LT1 as long as you do not like smoking the tires. It is the loss of control that will really screw up the T-5. When I bought the GTA I was a little skeptical with the T-5, but I have been pleasantly surprised. My LT1 is also modified and it seems to be holding up ok.
Looks like you have been really busy. Hope everything is going as smooth as it can be going for you. You can check some pics of my engine compartment if ya like at

Who said anything about lying???? I am just curious where he heard this or if there is data behind this.......
I have never heard of this..so thats why I am asking...
and another thing.. is the gains worth the offset in weight difference from iron vs alum???

I don't know anything about which flows more or not but if you had 2 heads made exactly the same except one was iron and other was aluminum...the iron would make more power. It's because of the thermal absortion properties of aluminum where a lot of the power is lossed, it's also why aluminum heads can run more timing without detonation.
I'd take iron heads over aluminum unless there was enough room to port the **** out of em.
There are probable reasons why the vortec heads outflowed the fastburns up to an certain lift which I believe was in the 400's already. Something about the vortecs making more power unless you had a pretty radical cam...maybe this is why GM is coming out with another revision of the fastburns?!?!?!
A true race car would use aluminum heads just for weight savings, hey, be careful stripping those spark plug holes

Here is an excerpt from the article,
"There were two heads used on the 350, one aluminum and one cast iron, along with one cast iron head for the 265. GM claimed that the original LT1 aluminum head had a 15% increase in airflow as a result of revised port angles and higher port ceilings when compared to the 1991 L98 head. That was impressive in 1992, but the iron LT1 head that came out in 1994 was even better. It flowed 20% more on the intake side and made more horsepower on the dyno."
