Update on the 86 airide camaro

Thought you all might like to see some photos of the camaro as it nears completion. Just missing wheels/tyres, air suspension controller and exhaust. Oh and the tinted glass! Look.............no door handles

Looking very tidy, who painted the car?

Andy.
I bare metalled it and media blasted it (underside as well), I welded the door handles and locks up. I epoxy primed it and 2k primed and flatted, then did it again, and again, and again! I sprayed red the sills, underside, inner wheel arches, engine bay and bottoms of the rear quarters with 2K red. ie anywhere the pro painter couldn't get to. I then flatted it and the Dad of a 16 year old I teach at school sprayed it red for me in their spray booth (I masked it!) at a bodyshop called CSG in Chesterfield. Everything was sprayed seperately, inside and out. I then flatted every single panel off the car, then assembled it, and it was airbrushed by a gentleman called Andy Scott from Rotherham. Back to pieces again and it was lacquered and then compounded for roughly 12 hours. I then dismantled it again, took it home, then assembled it to the point you see here. Took 2 and a half years to get to this point for the bodywork alone.
I will put all the photos up on my web site later for all the progress to be seen.
Looks absolutely stunning in the sunlight. The flames seem to change colour as you walk down the side of the car.

Yeah, it would be nice. But it has been off the road for so long now, it doesn't really make any difference. Still a lot of money to plough into it yet, and a lot more time. Should be out next summer though.

Hey Andy,

That looks amazing! I especially like the difference in flame where the nose emblem appears to be cutting through the trail. Nice touch.

Got any engine pics? I apologise if I've missed them in a previous thread, I've been so wrapped up in my own thread I haven't spent much time browsing!

As your only in Derbyshire you can pop over to Manchester easy enough , we have a bit going on with the Nags Head meet, plenty of days out with the AACNW, and the AVO, then i can see it in the flesh, do you go to the Tatton Park events?

I was wondering what happened with this car. Do you still have the other as well?

Hi Si.
Sorry haven't replied sooner. Just bought a Vauxhall Omega and am having some fun with that!! Anyway, have a look at
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/auto...ngine-bay.html for some engine bay photos. It hasn't changed much since then!! Although it runs, stops and steers.
Hows yours going on?

Andy.

Hi R1UK.
Next summer, we will gladly come over to the meet. We also intend to attend at least the stars and stripes event, but have been involved in the Waddington Air Show for the last 2 years on the same date. We will try to get to as many as poss though over at Tatton park.

Thanks for the invite.
Andy.

Hi Paul.
Hope you are well.
Seeing daylight may be a bit optimistic as due to work load in my job, the camaro hasn't been worked on for 3 weeks now. So, since I was pi**ed off with just about everything, and the fact that I wouldn't be able to get it finished AGAIN for next summer, I sold the low mileage Omega I had just bought and swapped it for this:

Looks good, but hides a lot of secrets. Anyway, with a bit of luck, it will be cruising the streets in the next week or so.

Andy.
