Alternative exhaust route
I have hedman headers and y-pipe.What I want to know is could I put my flowmaster muffler where the cat used to be(It does fit)and instead of running the tube back over the axle, put a bend on it just after the muffler and have it exit just before the back wheel. Will I need oval tubing for better ground clearance?Anybody done this? any advice would be great.(Don,t have to worry too much about strict emissions laws here in the UK.)

i have the exact setup you are talking about with just a headers, ypipe, and muffler where the cat goes with a turn down. scrapes if you hit a bump going 80 or 90 thats about it. it clears speed bumps too.

If the flowmaster doesn't fit, yuo can always just leave the muffler off, or else add a glasspack in there. But, you should probably try to go with the muffler, I guess they seem to sound better.

screw the flow master... get a spintech.. they are designed for side exit and ground clearence.. AND they have oval piping..
theres a guy in the next city from me who has this... his car is AWESOME!! he has a black 87 Z28.. he also has the pipes coming out of the ground FX... he cut a whole right before the rear tires(oval whole) added a rubber gromet to help protect the FX...
kinda like what the Roush mustangs have.. i think his looks better.
i might do this to my IROC.

Man your neighbors aren't going to know what hit them with that exhaust. My mom came from the UK so I have visited a lot. Man it must be hard driving down some of those roads. I know while I was down in Devon I thought damn I can't fit down some of these roads. At least you can impress people with the awesome American muscle car sound. The gas money must kill you though. It is pretty pricy there. When I looked at the gas station prices there my wallet almost shot itself.

I know what you mean TRANS87 I worked out the petrol price in the UK and its $4.70 a gallon.Better forget that 502ci motor. As for the roads people strangely seem to move out of the way on narrow ones when they see the car coming.
