Ok who's got long tubes?
I need to find out if there are any problems installing and running long tube headers on our cars...
It's a 350 TPI with A/C and all the stock emissions **** on there still.
Anything I need to know? Any particular brands that fit or don't fit?
I just assumed on getting Hooker Super Comp's

Timmy, they are somewhat of a bitch to put on, but do work very well. They work best coming in from the bottom, so if you have access to a lift, it makes life much easier. Also, as I'm sure you know, you will have to have a Y-pipe made. They can be a major bastard to put on, but stick with it and you will get them.
i do
Here's a link to my thread about installing long tubes n duals I just started the install so keep checkin back for updates

i got the hooker long tubes. they rock. hope your car isn't lowered......mine isn't and the collectors hang pretty low. they absolutley have to go in from the bottom. and if you want to keep the emissions crap you'll need to find a way to fabricate and install AIR tubes and you'll have to weld an o2 sensor bung in place. soon as i got my car passed e-check i put mine on with dual exhaust and flowmasters. got two more years of fun till next e-check then the edelcrap headers with a cat and cat-back go back on.
Do you know how many inches clearance you have on your collectors? I just ordered mine a couple of days ago. I ordered the hookers directly from jet hot. Here is a link to a guy with the hooker lts and the mufflex y pipe. http://www.geocities.com/cfrios/Phil87IROC.html

well I plan on running duals and so i dont imagine they'd hang lower than the mufflers...?
My main question is, is there enough room in the stock engine bay to fit them? Or do I have to remove things.....a/c, emissions.....etc?

For my hedmans the drivers side going in from the top
Removed both stock exhaust manifolds
Removed winshield wiper motor
Removed bolt from drivers side motor mount
Jacked up drivers side of motor as far as I could
then they dropped right in!
Passenger side is still waiting rained today

I dont think you have to remove anything, although I am getting rid of some stuff anyway. I have heard that with serpintine setups, one of your brackets that mounts to the exhaust manifolds will need a custom spacer made so that it will still mount out as far as it did on the manifolt thought. I cant remember what it was though. Oh, and by the way, mine just showed up.

I have headmen LTs. I love them. If i remember right we put them in from the bottom. We had to pull the starter to install them but that was it. I have a custom y-pipe. I need a new one that hangs just a LITTLE bit lower. The current one bangs on the bottom of the car. Other then the exhaust leaks that im to busy to fix it works and sounds great. I yanked all the emissions crap and still have a/c if that helps any.

I've had both the hooker and hedman full length headers. I'm using the hedman full lengths right now, I orginally bought the hookers for my current set up but I wasn't happy with how they fit so I ended up not using them. I've heard that the Hookers fit well on some peoples thirdgens but on mine they didn't fit well at all so I got the hedmans. I did a review of the hooker LT vs the Hedman LT headers on the aftermarket product review board a few months ago so you might want to do a search for the specifics.

I just dropped my L98 in today. Motor(305)/tranny(6-spd) were both out. I had a chain around the back of the a-arms to support the rear of the motor when we pulled the tranny out. The chain worked well to support the collectors when I had them laying across the k-member and it. Then I slowly lowered the motor in and then bolted them up when I could. I'm pretty sure they are 1-5/8" w/ 3" collector Headmans. I traded shortied for these from a buddy. I do NOT have a cat or AIR anymore, but do have AC. I don't think LTs will interfere with any of this stuff if you need to keep it all. BTW, I still have to weld an 02 bung in. Hope this helps you or someon. Later
Now I gotta make a y-pipe with dump chutes on it

I had to make a small dent on the passenger side header to clear the A-arm on that side. The header would go on without denting it but I was worried about rattles so I went ahead and dented it. Other than that they fit perfect.
Also if you are having major clearance problems check the part numbers on your motor mounts if you have had them off or have changed engines. I had mine switched at one point after swapping engines and they are just different enough to cause major interferance problems with headers.

Who has Long Tubes with a manual tranny? Do they clear the clutch hydraulics? How well does the exhaust clear the tranny crossmember and how much ground clearance is there?
I posted this link earlier in the thread. He has a manual, but it may be aftermarket. His name on the boards is Phil87Iroc.
