How much of a difference would I notice?

How much of a difference would I notice?

Hey all, I have a 92RS camaro with 3inch magnaflow exhaust(no headers), lt1 cam, 3.73 and K&N
When I got my exhaust done, my mechanic said he put bigger pipes coming from the engine down into the collector tube, so headers would be pointless.
Is this true or should I get headers? would I notice a difference with them?
Jesse

Bigger pipes into the collector? I've never heard of that, sounds like headers to me. But um, I would still put headers on to get rid of those crappy manifolds, plus the y-pipe is a horrible restriction.

I think he meant that the y pipe was replaced with bigger pipe. I think that is why his exhaust guy for some reason didnt think he needed headers. While the y pipe is probably helpful, you would still be be better off w/ headers.

Go ahead and get the headers. The stock manifolds are junk. There's no point in enlarging the y-pipe if you still have the manifolds because they are a huge restriction. You'll pick up more power with the headers and larger y-pipe rather than just the y-pipe alone. I would reccomend a set of hooker supercomps, but hedman and slp are good too.

I installed only a Flowmaster to the stock exhaust on a 1987 IROC 350 and increased 1/8th mile times from 9.45 to 9.25. It made the most difference of anything I have done.
