Sorry about the semi stupid question guys, but I got the 2 stainless tips, and now the car seems very quiet.. It had a new flowmaster 80 series...
The only change in tips is the positioning.. and the angle tip cut off is not as high. The new ones are set more parallel to the body and bumper. I did notice in the old chrome tips alot of carbon build up, at least close to an inch worth. And the other thing is the tips extend out to far for my taste, about 3" away from lower lip of bumper. (1991 gta)
Could this be due to the carbon build up inside the old tips?
I would really like to get the sound I had back...
if its not going to be that much of a pita..

tips rarely change the sound. turndowns will make it louder in the car and less noisy outside and so fourth but a tip rarely makes any change in the actual sound and tone.
Thanks a lot guys...
Yeah I had "super custom carbon built" resonators
Its close to an inch maybe 3/4" at the most... still.. funny you guys caught that..
The guy who owned the car previously, said he pretty much put the old tips on straight out the factory, either way probably might be a good idea to change the o2 sensor like you sugguested.
And yes I had my brother drive the car down the street, and it is still loud outside the car,but inside had drop in volume, I may re adjust the tips on friday if I get up to it....
Thanks again ....

Actually the tailpipe after the muffler can have a serious effect on the sound. I did a lab at university in an anechoic chamber, sometimes the change is pretty significant.

Really Drastius? Like I was saying I did notice quite a drop in the interior volume... but outside seems to be at the same as before...
So what do you think about getting it back to what it was? With the new shiney tips of course!

heh I have no idea how you could get it back to the original sound other than putting the old tips back on. Just saying you could vary the loudness by changing the tailpipe length.
Hey guys, sorry I didn't reply to this thread in a while... thanks for the help. I have am going to have the tip cut and move about 2" back into the muffler end and angled slightly downward. Right now they are sticking out about 3", imo looks like ****... I'll let you guyz know afterwards...next thing is to gut or get hi flow cats..
Thanks again
