Making Mark proud! (kinda long, about HOOKER!)

I got my MAC off-road pipe and my Hooker system put on yesterday. Now I know why Mark Shields talks about Hooker 24/7. I'm going to be right along with him now.

For anybody who has been thinking about getting an exhaust system but cant decide on what to get, I HAVE to recommend Hooker. I had Flowmaster on my car and now that I have Hooker I look at Flowmaster with a new sence of disrespect. The Hooker is fairly quite at idle, ALOT quiter than Flowsmasher, this allows you to sneak up in the driveway or wherever at 3AM and not wake everybody up. At cruising speeds, you can hear the rumble, but it's not really loud and nasty like my Dronemaster was. At WOT, it just freaking sounds unbelievable. I didnt know a 305 could sound so good. It has a Mudstain sound but with a Chevy bite to it. Very loud at WOT, but not just loud, it has a very nice tone to it. It almost sounds like an LT1 car.

I noticed a pretty good power gain also. It seems to have alot more kick off idle and alot more go on the highway at 60+ MPH. A definate SOP difference. The good ol butt-dyno never lies.

The shop that put the system on was in a little @ss town about 40 miles from where I live. (All the exhaust shops in town were backed up with 2 days of work, plus the weekend) This exhaust shop was like a Flowmaster factory, everywhere you look you see Flowmaster boxes, mufflers, stickers, banners, ect. The guy said he had never heard of Hooker before (although he's been doing exhaust for 24 years. I guess he never leaves town) He said I was making a mistake by taking off the Flowmaster and putting on the Hooker cause "Flowmaster is the best sounding and performing muffler you can get, ANYWHERE!" well, we got the system on (I helped with the installation) and I paid him and took off, flooring it right in front of the shop. The muffler man and all his workers turned their heads and dropped their jaws at the sound of my car. I rolled back by a minute later and asked how it sounded. The guy was asking me all these questions about where to get Hooker mufflers at and he said he was going to forget all about Flowmaster cause he's never heard a Flowmaster sound so aggressive.

SO, to all of you who want an exhaust system , hopefully I, along with Mark, have persuaded you to go for Hooker! If for no other reason, just for the name, lol.

I'll let you all know when I get the Hooker headers installed too.

:hail: HOOKER

D@MN you! I'm still waitin on my hooker catback, I ordered it like wednesday, but I guess it really is on backorder. I'm thinking about ordering an SLP Y-pipe and removing the cat too, do you think I should go for the Y pipe? Did you have flowmaster catback or just a muffler?

i wish my dad would not care about the cost of the system, i want a full hooker system, but i now am settling for flowtech headers coupled strait to the purple hornies from flowtech. but later down the road i hope to get my full hooker system.

Where did you order your Hooker from? I got mine from Jegs and it took about 5 business days to get to me. I say do as much of the exhaust at one time as you can. It will save you time and money. And while my car was on the lift I looked at my stock y-pipe. That thing is as thin as Richard Simmon's wee wee. I dont see how ANY exhaust gets through that thing! I'm about to have a fit to get the headers and y-pipe on my car. I had the Flowmaster muffler, not the whole cat-back. I HAVE heard the 3" Flowmaster American Thunder system on a thirdgen before. It doesn't even compare to the roar of the Hooker. My car sounds like it has a 383 or something in it!

Squeeks,
My entire setup cost over $600 but that's because I bought an off-road pipe from ebay and it cost me $56. I got the cat-back for $200 and the headers for $350. There's always a way to do things cheap. I see exhausr systems and pieces on the classifieds all the time

one question, does anyone know what materials hooker uses inside of their mufflers? are they a reflecting/chamber muffler like flowmaster, or do they have absorbtion materials in them (that fiberglass cloth stuff)?

Yep, that Hooker screams at WOT. My friend who has a 65 Stang with dual flows, was like damn that sounds good when you floored it in front of me.

And, I LOVE my Hooker catback. I just wished that I could get the tips a little bit closer to the bumper, they hang kinda low. I absolutely love the sound. It's got two "loud bands" or watever you would call it. At about 1700 to 2200 and then at about 3100+ it gets real loud. I love it.

Sorry if I offended anybody by talking bad about Flowmaster. They make a decent muffler and usually they sound decent. But I gotta tell you that Hooker sounds so much better and it is louder too (yes, I've heard a full 3" Flowmaster on a thirdgen too). to each his own though. Just dont want to offend anybody becuase I got banned on CamaroZ28.com because I wasn't using politically correct terms. I think they violated my 1st Admendment right of free speech. WhatI hate is when people say Flowmaster is the best without hearing anything else. They go strictly by name.

I love my Hooker!

Mark, or whoever else has a 3" Hooker, how low is your I pipe to the ground? Mine only has a few inches of clearance. Is this normal?

The only 2 things I dont like about my Hooker system are that the tailpipes need to be a little longer so the tips can come to the very end of the bumper, and also my passenger's side tailpipe was slightly bent inward. Other than that I cant be happier

Yep, it's a chambered muffler. Hence the name, Aerochamber. Get one!!!

I installed my Hooker cat-back and 3" Catco cat this morning. I still have a lot of work to go before I can give it a seat-of-the-pants test, but the tone is amazing! I ordered mine Tuesday and it arrived on Thursday from Jegs.

well i could get a full hooker system for 474.97 plus shipping and the time it would take me to put it on, but my dad wont order it for me because he says its a waist of money, even though i have the cash in my hands. this is the kind of stuff when i wish i didnt have a father, he just doesnt understand or have the love for cars like i do. it sux, thats why tomarrow without him knowing im ordering the flowtech system i was talking about, but if anyone out there in wonderland has a hooker settup, or headers or just a catback or what ever i will get some money and take em off your hands if you are willing to part with it. thanks

I've told this story a million times but...

When I first bolted on my hooker aerochamber cat-back it was real quiet at idle and kinda loud at WOT. After about 3 months it just got plain LOUD. I then added headers and gutted my cat now its so loud you can hear it idling like a block away. I wonder what it'll sound like with the new motor setup. I'll have to make some sound files when I get it running.

So the interior sound level is pretty tolerable? My RS is my 9 months out of the year ride and I prefer to drive it when the wife and kid go with me. I don't need a lot of complaining about the noise, and well, I don't like to have to YELL to carry on a conversation. I also want to be able to take this car on long trips without being numb when I get there. Is Flowmaster that in-your-face, so to speak? I don't want to do this more than once, or be unhappy with what I get. I do appreciate the testimonial though.

Cruising in OD you can't hear a thing in the interior. Though I noticed with my new cam I hear it more now.

i got my flowmaster put on when i was 15. i was dumb enough to think that is would sound exactly like my uncle's 67 rs camaro with dual flows. i was wrong. my car sound badass now with all my engine mods, but i didn't really like the exhaust with the stock goodwrench motor.

I thought my cat-back choices might be sort of all or nothing, my past exhaust systems on other cars were either always loud or always quiet. I thought best of both worlds (or close) was too much to ask for. Then again, a lot of the third gen designs make me re-think what I thought I knew.

Another thing I like about my Hooker over the Flowmaster is that it doesn't start to hurt my eardrums at highway speeds. I began to call my Flowmaster a "Dronemaster" cause that's all I could get out of it. My car sounded really wimpy with the Flow. With the Hooker I swear it sounds like a built 350. I can hear a whisper from the passenger's seat with the Hooker, I couldn't hear myself think with the Flowmaster.

I like an exhaust to sound very mean and intimidating. Flowmaster can get you there but it's always so loud and it gets irritating. That's why I like Hooker, it's mean when you want it to be mean, just press GO!
