cat-back for 92 3.1 V6?
ya, get hooker shorty headers to a catco cat and a borla catback, all 3". i think if you order now thru thunderracing they'll throw in a 350ci engine to mount it all to for like $100 extra

Welcome to the board man. First off, unfortunately, companies don't manufacture headers for our cars. They fit the engine, but not the body. But alas, our savior, Camaro_Hunter_C...and I'm sure I misspelled his username but you get the point..he's HIMSELF bending V-6ers headers, gotta order them from him. He's real fair and reasonable about it so no worries. Second, by far from what I've heard, the best catback you can get for a thirdgen V-6 is the Dynomax Super Turbo catback. Don't go Flowmaster..sounds too ***** on 6ers. You can then either put a pipe in place of the cat, or buy a new hi-flow..Catco makes good ones. I DON'T recommend gutting the cat unless you run a pipe THROUGH it...wreaks havoc on air flow. There, I just told you my exhaust plan formula for success. I'm doing it as soon as I get the money..although I gotta admit, these things really purr with the stock exhaust don't they??
hey thanks for the help guys. well its actually my dads car. he got the 92 RS with 70K immaculate condition for 1500$. got some type of front lip and sideskirts. on it. i think it would have been better with a V8 cuz i can destroy this car with my little turbo'd 4banger MR2. but adding a few mods to make the V-6 responsive is always good. anyway when you guys ordered your parts did you call the companies directly? i looked at summit and jegs and various other sites and they only list parts for the 5.0/5.7 V8's

For a V6, a good choice would be the Pacesetter cat-back from JC Whitney. It's 3" mandrel bent, aluminized pipe, and relatively inexpensive. It will flow fine for a V6.

Relatively inexpensive...like, under $200? The Dynomax system I looked at is mandrel bent but it's only 2 1/2.....but I can get the Dynomax for $160. Do you know how the Pacesetter sounds though?

Relatively inexpensive, like $149.95 plus s/h. You can usually get some sort of discount through them as well.
I don't know what it sounds like with a V6, but those who have it with V8 say it sounds fine.

I have the Dynomax 2 1/2" cat-back. Click on the link in my sig.
It's got a nice deep sound that IMO, would sound MUCH better on a V6 than a Flowmaster or Hooker would anyway. Those are both made to make V8s sound like V8s.
The Dynomax truly does muffle the sound, but it does so by lowering the pitch. Lowering the pitch fools the human ear into thinking something's quieter because our ears are less sensative to low pitch sounds. Plus it sounds stronger as you mash the pedal.
I've heard a Super Turbo (the muffler you'll get with the kit) on a 2.4L 4 banger in a '98 Cavalier. It sounded nice. Not the "coffee can" sound like most 4 banger mufflers sound. So if it sounded good on that, then I'm sure it'll be fine on a V6.

I forgot.

Nice...nice.. No EPA police and you can cut the converter right out and compensate for the volume. Yippee!!! (No inspections in Florida....I love my state)
