Can my car sound like this? How?

I found this sound clip somewhere i dont know where but i love the sound of of it! I know its a '86 IROC Z28 with a 305 TPI, it also has a flowmaster muffler. Does anyone know wich kind this could be and if my car could sound just like it or about the same? What would i need just the muffler? Do all flomasters sound like this on a stock car? Thanks!

go to http://www.angelfire.com/extreme3/cars247/cars.html and click on '86 IROC Z28 305 TPI(flowmaster)

What is your engine? That's probably just flowmaster catback. I have the american thunder 3 inch system on my car and it sounds like that, but that recording isn't great either. It's got all the deepness and not much else. My car sounds like that, and I've just got a stock '87 305 TPI.

Man I like the way my stock exhaust sounded. Well because it had a big hole in it but I stuck on some headers and bolted up some exhaust and it sounds pretty nice. There are no other mod for now but it sounds pretty nice. Heh, here is a clip of the exhaust with a hole in it and the headers on. I know The mic was to close. Yeah at the end I was messing around and put the mic real close to see how much it would distort.

The flowmaster 80 isn't very load, i used to have the crappy stock manifolds with 2.25" exhaust and a cherrybomb, it was a little louder. It's not too loud but it is fun to listen to.

Try putting the headers with the wrong tools.

I have the flowmaster 80 series muffler added to some unknown 2 1/2 inch catback. I'm sure 3 inch would sound/perform better but i still like the sound a lot. Certainly better than the dynomax i had on the car before. The 80 series would be good if you just want louder than stock.

Yeah my friend put a 2 1/2 inch dynomax intermediate pipe on his iroc and then the flowmaster 80. I don't think his car sounds that good but it is a tbi with the peanut cam. It definitely is a big improvement over his stock 2 1/4 inch crush bent system though. My car sounds a lot better with the TPI and the L98 cam. I don't know that I've ever heard a stock exhaust on a TPI car, but I'm sure the flow is louder. If you want it to be loud, you do like me and roll in a lower gear. If you want it quiet, cruise in overdrive. I don't care if everyone says they drone and everyone has them, I really like mine.

The 80 series will make you very happy. I have one with a 3" pipe and high-flow cat. It has a nice low, rumbly tone to it. It's pretty loud. Definitely not stock sounding though.

I just called the flowmaster hotline and asked them what the difference was between the 80 series and the American Thunder Catback. they said that the only difference was the flowmaster 80 was a crossflow design and the american thunder wasn't. So if i go with flowmaster im getting the 80 series! i just hope it doesn't have that loopy big block sound like a lot of them do. I like the one in the sound clip! the 80 series wont make me sound like a big block will it?

I don't think it has a big block sound. Its a nice smooth tone up through the midrange and then it roars when you go WOT. I guess a lot of the sound has to do with your cam though too. Go with the 80 series though, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

is this flow ok?

Brett:

Would this be good if i went with FLO-43083 from summit racing for $79.50 and threw on a couple of tips? This particular flomaster is for the 93-2001 camaro/firebird with single in dual out. I couldn't find any others that would work on my car. The shop said its a $139 for the muffler and tips installed wich i think is over priced. If i got this i could just have him install it with a few tips? keep in mind I am on a budget and im only 16.

To tell you the truth I don't even know the part number because I bought mine used. I'm pretty sure its the same muffler for all f-bodies from 82-02, so that one should be fine. Definitely get some decent tips. I have turndowns from my dynomax catback and I really hate the way they look. I'm working on getting some factory tailpipes from a 2000 SS though with the slp exhaust. Why not just install the muffler yourself? $139 seems like a lot just to install a muffler and tailpipes. And I know what its like being on a budget, I'm an 18 year old college kid.

No problem man, glad I could help. Keep us posted if you get it, we need more flowmaster guys on here. I'm tired of this "Everyone has flows" and "Get a hooker cause they sound different." Whatever, thats

I agree the 80 series flowmaster wont give you the big block sound but it sounds good mid throttle on up while sounding like a smooth rumble at idle.

Those Dynomax Superturbo bla bla bla mufflers, sounded like crap in that link. Very disappointed in those.

Ya i'm in a decision between Flows, or hooker. Not sure yet, but i cant go wrong, they both rock. I got 40 series Flows on my Grand Prix, and there awesome, to loud at times, but i think being cat-less has something big to do with it.

Depends on the motor behind it too guys.....
I will attest to that... on the 305 (before it went bye-bye) it was mild, but very strong sounding...
But with my other engine, um, it's VERY different.

I think that guy's got his links mislabeled. My friend has a 305 TBI with the Dynomax and it sound's EXACTLY like the clip the guy has labeled "Flowmaster".

I'll see if I can get a sound clip from him tomorrow and then post it here so you guys can compare. Can I attach it down below?
Maybe as a zip file?
