My Carpet Is Melted !!!

Yes the carpet under my passenger side seat is melted all the way down to bare metal, is it safe to assume that one of my 1 1/2 year old cats is clogged ? When i put hand over the exhaust pipe exit the air on the drivers side is hot, and the pasenger side pipe is cold, almost like it's sucking in air. And another thing, when i start my car, all this black **** comes out the pipes on both sides and stains the ground, it does not smell like gas, more like water but not too sure, any ideas about this one guys ??? the black stuff only started happening after my engine swap, then again maybe the old motor wasnt getting propper combustion, and filled the exhaust pipes with lots of black carbon, could that be the reason for the black stuff ? or is somthing terribly wrong ?

well your car must be running mega rich..or lean but black smoke is excess fuel.so your engine is dumping all the excess fuel in the cat..the same thing hapened to me a few years back in a 79 malibu wagon..lol i was 17 and got nervous but just buy an aftermarket cat to be legal i would correct the problem first see if your service engine light is on and retract the code...here this might help you with a new cat..

Max-Flow High Flow catalytic converters are designed to 25% more than stock converters

I would agree with pontiacgta1988 on this. Probably a rich condition. Running rich causes black smoke and will plug your cat and make it run hot as well, and when I say hot, I mean hoooot. When I was running rich for a bit last year my cat was red hot and smoking pretty bad. Is your mileage pretty bad? Sluggish response? The black stuff that covers the ground is probably just carbon built up in the cats and pipes.

going along with the consensus here...my engine was swapped and the mechanic reused the 305 injectors in a 350. couldn't pass emissions test and ordered 21# injectors. had converter replaced.... ran for about a week with the old injectors. took car back to muffler shop last week and the guy pointed out how badly scorched my cat converter was...says is indicative of running too rich....(wrong size injectors) he said it could happen in as quick as one day....

said that the converter was trying to burn off all the uncombusted fuel and coludn't keep up ....got too hot....

change the converter and check your tune up....

are you getting any codes? dont run the car too long like that because as we all learned in kindergarten the extra fuel will wash off the oil in the cylinders killing your rings in turn killing your compression which will make you loose power and ultimately your car will feel like a honda. who agrees on this one?

I am not getting any codes at all, in fact the engine seems to run fine, idle great and throttle response is sluggish but not too bad, i filled my tank on friday.... today i ran out at about 135mpt, that is awful, and the car just smells like **** with the windows down, it, should i bring my fuel pressure down some, i think it's running at stock pressure on my afpr, the other night i put my hand down on the carpet and really burned the **** out of my fingers, i think she's clogged big time.
