Another Question ABout exhaust cut-outs

Hey Guys,

I have a 1991 Z28 5.7 Tuned Port Injection with both converters gone and a series 80 flowmaster. I've heard people running one of the exhasut cut-outs. I was wondering.....how loud would my car be? Would it sound "trashy" cause I really don't want a trashy sounding Z. I just want a good, nice deep...louder tone. Please let me know. Thanks!

Loud and illegal on the street.

Cut-outs are track-only items. If you don't go to the track, don't bother.

On the street, definately trashy.

It's not a trashy sound.

I haven't had one negative comment from anyone about the way it sounds. I've got incar audio of my cut-out and nobody can say they don't like the sound. It is loud, but not extremely loud.

BUT, at WOT it SCREAMS!

I went to the track this spring, and my car sounded much quieter than the other street cars there.

Yep. But it will only sound trashy if you can't back it up.

Well guys....I went ahead and ordered the exhaust cut out....I was thinkin.....if it dosen't have the tone that I want.....then I can just put the cover back on....no big deal.....I just think it would be kewl to have it more of a "raw" and then to have it as a "flowmaster" loud if I want. Anyone else have any comments??

i have full length headers and normaly run open only at the track. its really loud and annoying on the street to have the exaust exit right under the seats. id agree with the guy that said track only piece. performance wise i pick up like 2 tenths in the 1/8th by cutting out right after the headers

I'm running true duals and when I take mine off it's really loud, almost as loud as when I was running open headers. Don't get me wrong though, it sounds good but just way too loud for the street they're definitely track only.

Hey Guys, I just had the exhaust cut out put on and geez.....that thing is really loud. IT has a nice deep tone though from 40-55 mph...which sound really good. When you let off the gas.....that's when it kinda sounds "trashy". If there was a way to quiet it down....just a litte bit....it would be really awesome....anyone have any ideas?? But....I'm glad I put it on there.....let me know if anyone has any ideas. Thanks!

Car chemistry also makes some inserts you could maybe put in there, but I haven't heard much about them.

sounds like you should run glasspacks instead of mufflers

Why do you say that? You can still hear the flowmaster pouring out the back of the car with the exhaust cut out. Glass packs don't have that deep, low, aggressive, growl like the flowmaster does.........really, the cut out just gives it like 5 times more volume, but I have rigged away to adjust the volume of the cut out, so it sounds pretty good. The 80 series flowmaster sounds more like a 40 series....just about 2 times louder when I run the cut out how I have set it to run on the street.. I usually only run the cut out wide open when I go to the track...or if someone wants to hear it all the way off. I do agree 100% that if you run it wide open that it is wwwwwaaaayyyy to loud for the street and you might as well say goodbye to the stereo because you won't hear much from your speakers. Just tighten 3 wings nuts......and your back to the 80 series flowmaster which is still nice........so....no man.....I don't need any glasspacks.:nono:
