need help with headers and exhaust

I am going to get Borla Exhaust for my camaro, and i also want some headers. Im new at cars and im only 16 and I would like know what you guys recommend. Money is not that big of a issue because i know a friend who can get me 75% off all parts. Also, how much would installation be for exhaust and headers?

Thanx

IF you are talking about LT headers, thats long, equal length tube, then the price is about $350 for the Hooker headers. I think Hedman or somebody makes for 3rd gen cheaper. You can save yourself some cash by doing the install yourself and you might learn something in the process. As for what a typical shop will charge, I don't know. I can imagine that LT header installation will be expensive given the work involved.

I've got the SLP Stainless Steel headers and Y-pipe on my 92.
Thick flanges, so gaskets last and everything bolts up pretty easily. They sell them in 1-5/8" and 1-3/4" tube sizes. They don't make as much power as the long tube headers mentioned above, but they're smog legal in all 50 states and are very well made.
Only drawback is price. Kind of steep at nearly $450, but occasionally you see them for less.
As far as installation goes, I did mine myself, as I think most any self-respecting hot-rodder would, but for a beginner it may be frustrating. Just be prepared to remove whatever's in the way and don't rush.
I also installed the rest of my exhaust system, then drove it to a muffler shop to have the slip-joint connections welded up.This cost about $150, including having them weld in a 3" cat.

I'd reccomend hooker super comps (pn: 2055) and the corresponding y-pipe (don't remember the pn). If you have the tools and space to do the work yourself, I would reccomend it. Putting on exhaust isn't a very complicated job, and a good project for a beginner. Do a search and there's some threads around here about putting on headers and cat-backs, they should answer all your questions, if not feel free to post here and we'll help you out.

The hooker PN refered to is for the super comp long tube headers. They are very good quality and fit very well into the cramped confines of the engine compartment. The installation is however, kind of tedious. When I installed mine I was also installing a new engine so my engine was already in the air. I helped a friend put them on a his car and we ended up lifting the motor up about 8 or so inches to get them in. If anyone out there has installed them without lifting the motor, I would love to hear how you accomplished the feat. As for sound quality, BOrla mufflers sound great in my opinion. I am running a Spintech 4 inch muffler and it sounds awesome, I think. Flowmasters sound good, so do Dynomax. I guess the choice is really yours. Good luck.
