HP Gains
HP Gains
What would the apx. HP gains from Edelbrock Headers/ Y Pipe, Hi flow Cat with a 3" Custom Cat back pipe into a 80 Sieries Flow?
This is in a 86 T/A with the LG4 Engine pretty much everything stock cept the K&N and L69 intake housing.

Heh i was hoping near 40Hp... I read somewhere in Jegs, that just the 80 seriers flow for Camaro's and Firebird's add 30Hp and 40Tq. (At the Flywheel) and that the headers add 22Hp to the ground. This should drop 1/4 Et by around .5 sec atleast right??

They're trying to take your $$$ and hope you believe everything you read. You know, K&N air filters are good for 40 HP on some applications.

Oh man, you've been suckered in like all the other 17yr old Mustang owners.
All kidding aside, yes , they say "UP TO 40HP". This means if you throw it on a 502 BB that is producing 500 hp, yeah you take a ****ty stock muffler and replace it with the flow, you're goin to pick up quite a bit of HP.
But throw that flow on a 170 hp and you're not goin to get 40hp.

It may actually give you 40hp on the LG4, depending on the size of the cat (it has to be a 3" to make any sort of power.
Now a full exhaust, intake, air cleaner, and timing computer adds up to about 225hp on an LG4, so 190 with just an exhuast is possible.

The did not have as many parts as the camaro, but it still ran 15.1 at 92mph every damn time at E-Town, or about 225hp in a 3600lb car.
Mods:
Banks y-pipe, 3" cat, and 3" cat-back exhaust
L69 air cleaner with K&N
Edelbrock Performer EGR intake
Edelbrock Micro-plus timing computer
The car was a T5 with a 3.27 9 bolt rear on regular BFG radials and it was tuned about perfect.
I ran a little faster with my Camaro (15.0), but it also had underdrive pulleys and electric fans (IROC ran a clutch fan & stock pulleys).
The only 2 advantages the L69 would still have are the compression (worth only 5-10hp) and a stronger cam (another 10hp maybe). So the two would only be at most 20hp apart if everything else was the same.
