Full length headers

I have installed full length headers on my 92, and they don't leave much room for exhaust pipes to be bent around the tranny, crossmember, and what third gens have as a frame. Everywhere I go the exhaust guys all say they can't fit anything in there, its just too low. Has anyone else had luck with fitting an exhaust system with full lengths. The car chemistry collector disks take the edge off the sound, but they are still loud.

Yeah but that car has the Hooker full tubes-no problemo running exhaust, now if 2laneblacktop has the Heddman full tubes, he's gonna have the same B.S. looking system I have cause the center of the collector is even with the tranny pan mounting area and only a few inches away-they don't hang down far enough. I'm just assuming header make on his car, but I'd bet a 12 box that's the brand and the problem.

IHI.....you are correct. I do have the Heddman full lengths. And like you said, there is just not a whole lot you can do with such a compact space. What does your system look like?

Terrible. It comes out of the collectors and bends down a little and then a 90 degree bend towards the rocker panels-it kinda humps under that sub-frame brace right there on the driver side. Way difficult to explain, right now it's on the trailer as we're headein to Cordova for Nationals till Sunday. When I get back I'll take some pictures and post them-it's the ugliest thing you ever saw, but it works for now and actually car ran the same number uncorked. Right now as long as I got the exhaust there I'm gonna finish the outside and interior first.

From what you said that sounds like the only thing I have thought to do. But if you could take some pictures that would be great. And good luck with this weekend.

Luck?! I'm gonna go down there and put in on 'em, the poor guys who have to stage next to me need the luck!
When we get down there, I'll try to get a few shots when I'm half off the tralier so I can kinda get a better angle and try to get them posted first chance I get when I get home after I do the wife, slap the kids, and kick the dog thing. Just be prepared to see the ugliest exhaust ever, the place that did it was gonna be one of my sponsors this year and after they had the car for a week, I even took them pics of how I wanted it, they still threw the most mickey mouse lookin pipes a cars ever seen, so needless to say I dropped them, paid for the material and told them to go to hell, I was'nt gonna pay for the labor on that mess, and with the H pipe, evertime I remove the exhaust I had to cut it in half cause the dummies wedged it in there and made everything bound up-it was so bad when I swapped in the TH350 that I literally had to snap 4 of the 6 GRADE 8 collector bolts. For your own good too, use the copper or aluminum gaskets at joints, I switched over to them from the paper and have reused them a few times and never had a leak yet-knock on wood, so personally I'm sold on the copper header gaskets and aluminum collector gaskets. Talk to ya next week!

Here's some pics of the exhaust, not the best as the trailer decided to settle lower than I expected, plus lighting kinda played a factor but here they are anyway.

Thanks for the pics, I really didn't think it looked that bad from what I could see. It gives me an idea of what to tell the guys at the exhaust shop if they are brave enough to take the job on.

One more thing, if you were running at stock ground clearance, how far does a system like that hang down? I would just like to know how low i'm going to be.

The mufflers I'm running are made by Flow Master under a generic name so they're a little different, the height of my mufflers are 4.5" compared to 4" by Flowmaster. I had to dent the **** out of my rear floor pan so I could raise them up a little higher, when driving by myself, I usually don't scrape anything except maybe a steep gas station driveway, with a full tank of fuel and a passenger, not many bumps go by that the mufflers don't scrape-it looks pretty trick at night cause ya leave a big ole spark ball when ya hit and it kinda looks like that Indy car movie with Sylvester Stallone. With a full tank of fuel and nobody in the car there's only 3.5" ground clearance at the lowest point. Once the rest of the car is "complete" I'm almost thinking about giving the Borla Bullet mufflers a try. The shop originally installed glass packs and it sounded like an old poor mans farm truck, I did'nt want that high school gear head sound, yes I lost ground clearance but thesee mufflers perform like no other-car runs the same number with or without exhaust, plus it's got that Flowmaster hollow gargle to it. All in all with these headers and this body style a guys just F..... if ya know what I mean, I should have bought the Hookers.
