I'm guessing those are the AIR tubes that you're talking about and one/or two goes to the cat.

you take them out using a 9/16 wrench and put them in the garbage

The tubes coming off of your manifolds are the AIR tubes. They are for the AIR system that is required for emissions. If your putting headers on your car, the headers will have them already. If that's the case toss them in the trash.

Now if you don't have emissions or don't have a visual inspection, you could probably get away with not having them, your also going to need to get rid of the entire AIR system in that case.

Have fun.

If you remove the pump, your going to need to get a smaller serp. belt or get a delete pulley. You also might want to look into chip burning. Once you remove the smog pump, I've heard that you can get check engine lights. You might want to do some more research into that. Have fun.

I'd love to give you an answer but I have no clue in hell what burning chips consists of. All I know is you get chips and reader, hook it up to a computer with the software and you can fine tune your car. Check the DIY Prom section of the boards, they can tell you everything and anything you need to know about it. Good luck and have fun.
