Jet Hot coating
Well, I'm sending my new SLP headers off to Jet Hot for the "Sterling" coating. Just wanted to ask though, should I get the whole header set coated from the headers all the way to the pipes that run to the cat? Or is it enough to just coat the headers themselves? I have the SLP 1 3/4 headers made for dual cat cars. (Bought on sale from Summit...
) They don't have a Y-pipe, just 3 extra pipes that run from the headers to the cats. Thanks.

Yeah, those look NICE. How are the pipes that you didn't coat? Are they still in good condition or do you wish you had them coated as well? I'm thinking that having the pipes that run to the cat coated would just be overkill... My primary reason for wanting to do Jet Hot is for protection of the headers. Thee things were expensive enough to begin with... And also temp reduction in the engine bay.

How much does that coating cost? Is it the same as ceramic coating as in heat protection? It doesn't turn colors like chrome does it?

Mark I got quoted for $179 for the headers alone. It won't turn colors like chrome and is much more durable than just about everything else because they coat both the inside and outside. The coating is good all the way to 1300*F

Fred,
The other pipes are fine. My logic was the same as yours in that I thought it would be overkill to do the other pipes. The underhood temps are fine. These things cool down real quick compared to uncoated or the stock manifolds.
Mark,
It is a ceramic coating. I went with Jet-Hot because they seem to be the industry leader. They charged me $180 for a pair of shorty headers for their sterling coating. It doesn't turn colors. It has dulled a bit since being used but not too bad. I wish that it would have retained the shiny chrome look but they still look REAL good. IIRC Jet-Hot provides a lifetime warranty for their coating. They coat the inside and outstide.
IMHO It is money well spent.

I got my whole Edelbrock TES system coated. It was $262 when it was said and done! It will protect the starter as well as possibly keep temps down in the oil pan. Not too much but it will still help. They will recommend you do it but they are the ones taking your money! The only problem i have heard of is that people have said that the coating starts to peel a bit in the 2-3 yr time frame. They just sent them back to Jet Hot, no questions asked! Not bad if you ask me.
yea, i did exactly what 86IROCNJ did. I went all the way through the y-pipe. I marked them a bit with slipping wrenches or when the car decided to hydroplane over a curb. But its standing up besides that.

TTT, another question, I will be orderin some Hedman long tubes soon, and they sell them already coated, but not sure if they have it in Sterling? anyone know if jegs or summit sells them like that?
If not, how much would it cost to ship it to Jet Hot?

How much would they charge to coat a set of hedman longtubes? I painted mine but they look like crap so im thinking about just ordering another set of hedman longtubes and getting them coated...the headers themselves are only 100$ so why not.

They're $350 normal w/o coating.
