what's the best headers for a 383??
i'm about to swap my 305 with a 383 and i'm not sure which headers are the best. i'm leaning toward the SLP's, but which size would be better, i would think the 1 3/4 but i'm not sure and are the A.I.R. tubes neccessary if i don't care about emissions? thanks.

Get some 1 3/4 Hooker headers. I wouldn't get the AIR tubes if you don't need emissions. They just get in the way.

I would go with the Hooker Super Competition long tubes, part number 2210. I am going to get them for my 406 as soon as I have the money.

nope
slp headers are the best for emissions compliant car only........
theres no way imho that they are better than 1 3/4 long tubes flowing through a dual exhaust.............
if emissons or ground clearence is a concern, slp's are good....
if emissions are out the window, and all out hp is key, go with some sort of full length header like hooker and hedman.....
p.s. hedman sells a long tube header for our cars for 104$ through jegs......
p.p.s heres a pic of the hedmans

The thread starter mentioned he was not concerned about emissions. Also he said he needed 1 3/4 primaries. Do the Hedman long tubes have 1 3/4's as any info I find on them say they are 1 5/8.

I guess it depends on the exhaust ports on his heads. If he has large D shaped ports like my fastburns then you pretty much need the 1 3/4 primaries to get a gasket to somewhat match the ports.

hedmans are made for a do it yourself custom exhaust.......
if you need somthing that will bolt up to the existing exhaust try slp's....
they sell a header i think 30014 for dual cat's w/o air, for like 3 somthing......
i have afr 190's with d exhaust prots, and like the feller said above, they dont match up to well to the exhaust port.......
but reguardless, if ya need a dual exhaust that kicks ***, then hedman and hooker rules......

Be warned that the headman lt headers wont hang down low enough to run the pipe back past the subframe. You will have to use or make some kind of bend to clear them. That is part of the reason I went with the hookers.

P.S. What the heck is up with a p.p.s.? I think thats a little excessive don't you? j/k

Nothing can touch the Hooker SuperComp Long Tubes (PN 2210) in terms of flow (cept for maybe the Hedman Huslers but that is a different story entirely). You'll need a custom Y-pipe or one from Mufflex (PN TPI-Y

There is only 1 y pipe made for it that I know of. It is made by mufflex. Here is a link to a guy that has it. http://www.geocities.com/cfrios/PhilsIroc.html
