the thing that i liked is how it looked like polsihed headers........ yea, i'm sure people have tried it, but i haven't seen a topic about that paint so far............

but like you said mark, the real test is durability!!!! i think it will do good, only time will tell.......

I've used several different brands of "high heat" so called ceramic paint on exhaust etc...

Ceramkot ( sp? ) makes a good product as does POR-15, which has a high heat product called POR20. It's less than $20, and it brushes right on and looks really good. I used the POR20 on headers several times, and it held up very well...the ONLY spots it chipped or flaked was where I ended up having to "clearance" the header tubes with a hammer and some pipe

The want you to "bake" it on for an even tougher finish.... I've had success doing this with a gas grill...

The big thing is the prep work. The POR20 needs to applied to CLEAN ( like sandblasted ) metal. I've had better luck with the other spray can stuff when using a high temp primer underneath. BOTH products do MUCH MUCH better when you give it 4 or 5 THIN coats with plenty of drying or "bake" time in between.

It's all in the prep work. Friend of mine installed a catback exhast on his truck a few YEARS ago...while it was sitting there out of the truck, I scuffed it down with steel wool and sprayed with the high temp alum paint... I put about 5 THIN coats on it, letting each coat dry before I applied the next.

That exhaust system is still GORGEOUS!!! And this is a daily driver truck... the ONLY rust spots are where he had it welded.

I wouldn't exactly call it a "thermal coating". I see those words, I think "ceramic coating".

Heat resistant paint, yes.

Thermal barrier, no.

Ceramic coating provides corrosion protection, heat insulation, and is hard (resistant to scratches). Paint and chrome both fail at the insulation part.

I paid $8 for a can of 1500 degree paint when I ordered my headers. It still looks pretty good after almost a year of driving, especially the headers which I was able to bake in an oven before installing. Thermal barrier - basically nil.

I agree....did those paints I used help keep the underhood area cooler? Nope...

As for ceramic coating, such as Jet Hot, it does a great job of keeping the headers, and this the underhood area cooler, but it's not as durable as most people think ( who haven't used it ).

The biggest thing with ceramic coating is making sure not to scratch or mess with it when installing the headers, which can be a pain sometimes.. especially headers that need "clearancing" to fit on the engine correctly.

For the money, I'll go with sandblasting the headers, priming them, painting them with POR20 or something like it, then using headers wrap and the silicone spray to coat the wrap ( keeps the moisture etc from soaking into the wrap )......About $80 vs $200.

I've never had a problem with headers rusting out underneath the header wrap, of course I've always used the spray and a good high temp paint and primer beneath the wrap.....

Just my highly inflated 2 cents
