Aside from what I did, have you tried unbolting the trackbar brace (and trackbar as well if needed) to get that piece to fit over the rear ?

You should jack the car so that the axle can drop down.

I drove my car to a garage having removed the muffler as I was unable to remove the intermediate pipe. The guy put it on a vehicle lift the type that lifts the wheels and we were unable to remove the pipe. He then jacked up the back of the car and it came out but was difficult then obviously put the new one in.
Cost me £5
As was mentioned earlier removing the track bar helps

those are some good ideas. where can i jack the rear of the car up though? i tryed to do it before on the notches provided near the rear tires, but they started to bend, and i dont feel real safe under there when its only being held up by 2 really thin peices of metal.

best way would be to slip jack stands underneath the rear subframe rails. Be careful, though, the sheet metal will bend if you load it at one point. Then remoe the jack form the rear and itll now be unloaded so you can work on it.
